Suburban stove problems

Good day all

New to the forum and new to a 2005 Shamrock 19 hybrid. We are heading out to a provincial park on Saturday and our daughter is celebrating her 16th birthday while we are camping. My wife would like to bake a cake while we are gone. I can get the pilot light to burn in the stove but the burner does not light and therefore there is no heat. Can anyone offer a suggestion, thanks!

I had this same thing happen to the oven in my Trailmanor. A local dealer replaced the main burner safety valve, and all was good after that.

I have a new Rookwood with the Suburban Stove/Oven. Prior to this we had an Atwood Stove. Both oven pilots have been a bit of a pain to light. I find it helps to make sure the lines have been purged with propane and to take your time, since it takes a while for the gas to get through the pilot lines. If you smell gas you should stop and let the air clear for a few minutes prior to attempting to light the pilot. Make sure to follow the instructions on your appliance. I have always been able to get the pilot lighted, but never as quickly as I would like. Happy Camping

GingersDad, by the way I read the original post, ,mbentz can get the pilot lit OK, but the burner won't come on after the pilot is lit.

By my understanding, the safety will only open once the thermocouple to the pilot gets hot. This prevents someone from turning on the oven gas without the pilot light lit....that could be a bad situation. When the safety valve goes bad, then it defaults to the closed postion not allowing the main burner to fire.

mbentz, have you tried letting the pilot light to stay lit for a couple of minutes before trying the main burner ??. Maybe the pilot light thermocouple just hasn't heated up enough to open the safety valve.

Sorry about that, yes I agree with mtnguy. You should let the pilot burn for at least a minute. I find with our Suburban that you have to push the knob all the way in and you should be able to hear the gas start to flow, if not time to have it service by someone in the know.

Thanks for the advice. The pilot lights right away and I let it try and light the burner for several minutes with no success. I'll have to take it in to be serviced. Happy camping everyone.

Hope you enjoy your Shamrock as much as we do - we have a new 19.

When you do get the stove working, I recommend you invest $3-5 in an unglazed floor tile, right above the burner - it will make baking much better by evening out the heat - no burn spot.

So for PP, we've done, Balsam Lake, Bon Echo and Bass Lake - prices have gone up quite a bit, but still worth it. I just wish they would improve their online reservation system - it sucks.

Is the pilot light pointed at the thermocouple? Perhaps just a gentle bend or tweak will fix it.
