Suburban Stove Top Paint falling off!

Greetings!
We noticed black flakes on the floor in front of our
stove the day we brought our new trailer home from the dealer.
We assumed they were construction debris and paid
little attention.
Since then we've found them after nearly every trip.
Finally removed the stove top and discovered the entire
underside of the cook top skirt is peeling and rusting.
Obviously the metal was not properly cleaned prior to
painting at the Suburban factory.

There is not a single square inch of the underside that is
not cracked, rusted and peeling.

I plan to send photos to the Suburban tech support and
complain but I also have purchased a $7 can of Rustoleum
stove and grill paint. It's going to be a hassle to wire
brush and scrape the entire underside but that's what
I've got to do.
Wish I had a sand blaster but I don't.

"If it ain't one thing, it's another" as my daddy used to say!

I can't believe I'm the only one who got one of these.....

Follow-up. Called Suburban mfg and they said to take it to a
dealer. Talked them into just taking the stove top to a local
dealer.
Just called the local dealer and he said bring it in with all
documentation and he'll take pictures and contact Suburban.

It has a 2 year warranty and we now hope to get a new top!!
I'll report back when I know more.....

(I'll save the stove paint for my wood stove or chimnea.)

Hi Ky Dan, my V lite has the same problem- and the shiny metal pan looks like yours does- full of black flakes! The underside is definitely rusted and paint flaking off, also. I will take some photos, as well. Your'e NOT the only one! Randy

Suburban has a 2 year warranty so don't wait.
Take your top to a dealer so they can start the warranty claim.
They told me I needed the model number and serial so I took a photo
of the sticker found under the top.
They also needed my make and model and vin of my trailer
and the date I bought it.
Luckily I had all that in a "we want you to be happy" new customer
letter from my dealer. My dealer is 200 miles away so I've gone
to a local authorized dealer for the warranty claim.

I'll race you to see who gets their new top first!

Dang-it Dan, now I have something else to look at this afternoon. We haven't noticed the black flakes but I'm going to be sure to raise the top and look when I get home.

Best of luck getting yours replaced. And speedily!

Now that I am thinking about it; I had a Coleman/Fleetwood Pop up with the 3 burner gas stove that also rusted underneath the top. What I'm wondering is are all of these Suburban stoves prone to this problem, or just that most folks either don't notice or don't check under the cover. I think that a new top is going to do the same thing! MAYBE not quite as bad, but still rust in time. Suburban just hopes nobody notices. Randy

More Follow up.
Just got an e-mail from Suburban. I'd sent them a copy of these
pictures too.
They said it was left in the bake oven too long and since it was in
warranty they'd replace it. Has to be done thru a dealer and that's
where I am now.
Dealer is supposed to call them- maybe already done today.
I will check with them tomorrow to see if they've made the call.

i have the same stove in my 2008 rockwood and the pan on the stove is also "flaking",although no where near as bad as yours. i'll take another look at it this week and if it looks like it may be a problem,i'll definately follow up and get it replaced.
