Sugar Ants
Hey y'all, been having an issue with sugar ants in my kitchen area. Wondering if any of y'all have had this issue and what is the best and cheapest way to get rid of them. Other then you general housekeeping.
Any advanced will help.
Thanks y'all and have a great weekend.

I use a protein based gel bait that they take back to the nest and kills the rest. Get it from diy pest control.com. It also works great on carpenter ants. Put out a few dime size drops where u see them

You could make your own bait by using 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup of borax and 1/4 cup of very hot water, stir until borax and sugar is dissolved. You can also add corn syrup if you want, but it is not necessary. Put the mixture in soda bottle caps and set them wherever you see ants. The ants will drink their fill and take it back to the nest to share and it will kill the whole nest in 1 or 2 days. If you watch the ants drink it their abdomens will swell to 2 - 3 times normal size before they take it back to the nest.

To kill the ones you can see (although, as others have said, you also want to get to the next), get a spray bottle from the Dollar Store. Put in 1 oz. of any dishwashing soap to 9 oz. of water. Spray on the ants and it will kill them almost immediately. It's effective, and safe for kids, pets, and surfaces.

We took out their source of food (a leaking packet of jelly in the pantry) and placed ant bait traps in the pantry, on the floor next to it, and near the stovetop. They all disappeared.

We mix 2 parts sugar and 1 part Borax and use it dry. Sprinkle it where you see them. Works outdoors quite well. Indoors put some on a disc of plastic or a piece of pasteboard.

Can depend on what time of year it is. During some portions of the year, protein baits work and during other times of the year sugar based baits work well. When in doubt you can put out both. Borax mixed with wither a sugar or a protein based liquid is a good choice as mentioned above.

Just pop open ant bait here plus ortho home defense spray
... every rv I've ever owned, and my bass boat for that matter, seems to always have a small colony of black sugar ants on board.
I've learned to coexist, I can slow em down, even stop them for a little while, but have never eliminated them completely in years of rv'ing.

is this while camping or while stored?
Either way, if you spray the ground around your tires and jacks/stabilizers then they can't get into the camper.
Stop them at the entry point... no need for chemicals in the camper.

Quite by accident I found out that "Fabreze" will kill the ants you see super-instantly. On a recent outing I saw the guy setting up in front of me sprinkling some type of powder around his tires, tongue jack, stabilizers, anything that touched the ground. I had to ask him about it and he showed me he was using plain powdered "Comet" cleanser. He learned it from another camper some years ago and swears he has never had ants in hit TT.

sounds like a waste of Comet cleanser... unless you see evidence of many ants.
I've been camping for many years, with no chemicals or cleansers on the ground, and I also can swear I've never had ants in my trailer.
Just my 0.02 - it would be good to carry some pesticide perhaps, but I wouldn't use it unless there are indications of ants in the area.

If you haven't seen ants while camping, you are lucky

These are called Argentine ants and are very prolific here in Texas recently. Many of our state parks carry warnings about them. I have a couple of commercial chemicals that i use to combat them. I spray around all contact points when I set up, especially on the power cord. I mix this up at home for spraying around the house and just put some in a spray bottle to take with me.

Had the TT washed and waxed at a campground and the day after, looking out of my window, saw a trail of ants going up the side of the trailer. They were using the electrical plug as a ramp to go up to the roof. Went out with the Pine Sol and Borax. Poured the Pine Sol on the cable and sprinkled the Borax around, Wiped off the ants on the trailer. All gone in a few hours.
