Tire rubbing slide bar- frame buckled at axles

On the main slide on the driver's side, the inside of my tire rubbed through on the bar that goes across the slide (I guess to connect the two gears).

I've removed the tire but am trying to disconnect that bar to get us to the next campground. Anyone have any tips/tricks for it?

Step 1 is to drill out/Easy Out the busted bolt head.

That isn't good. Why did it all of sudden make contact? Did the axle bend or are the bearings shot and allowing the tire and wheel to tilt?

As far as I can tell, the axle hangers have bent. It appears to be impacting all 4 wheels.

I hate that for you. I hope you can get it straightened out. So if the hangers have bent, then did the sides shift too one side? You full time, right? How many miles or nights has it been used?

Contacting all 4 is odd, are these oversized tires? Pic looks like the frame flange is bent, possible from the axle, and if so is the axle bent?

Doug, it looks like you have frame damage. I don't like anything I'm seeing about the bottom flange of the I-beam frame.

Had you been on some terribly rough roads or hit any big potholes?

I wish you luck but I think you have a big hurdle to overcome. I know you'll keep us posted.

EDIT: Also on the bolt... That's just a through bolt and simply connects the square tube to the gear mechanism. You should be able to drive it out with a punch. Keep in mind, the two slide racks are timed so the slide racks go out evenly together. When reinstalling the tube, make sure it remains as you removed it.

Doug, there should be a bolt in each end of the rod you can remove the bolts and slide the rod off. I would have new shackles made out of much heavier steel than the 3/16" or 1/4" the factory uses. I would go with 5/16" or 3/8" thk steel.

Just use a punch and knock the bolts out.

Thanks guys. I'm fearing frame damage. We called a small town auto/truck repair center and the owner looked at it quick- his suggestion was to drive it to Camping World and buy something new. His off the cuff swag was "at least $8,000 and 2 weeks" to open it, straighten and reinforce the frame, and put all of the pieces back together. But that was laying on the ground on a public road for 1-2 minutes.

I didn't have any luck punching one of the bolts out. I hammered like the dickens and even tried drilling it out. I ultimately gave up.

We're looking for a place to stay for the weekend. Guess we might be camper shopping. Ugh.

Or I'll find out how much this Good Sam Extended Service plan is worth... on Tuesday when they open back up.

This stinks and especially on a Holiday weekend. Best of luck.

The main slide won't go out right. Second stop in a row that the bunkhouse slide won't go out.

F}%k this. I'm done.

No significant impacts that I can recall. Axles run maxed out at 7k each but I haven't weighed them individually in a long time so I could be over on one or both.

My last weighing was a couple of weeks ago. At the time, I was 700 lbs overweight. At the time, the axles were carrying 13,880 lbs.

Needless to say, I'm sick and over reacting right now. It's probably good that it is a holiday weekend so I don't act rash.

But, how the carp do I trade a camper with frame damage in that I can't even get it to a dealership to trade it in. Bloody heck.

But, I can't figure out how

I feel for you and your beautiful family.

You might bump the slide switch to free any tension the shaft has on it...that might free the bolt.

Unless the frame is bent in at the bottom and out at the top I can't see how that could do it. If your patience allows...and there is room...might stretch a string beside the frame to check for straight/bow something.

If the bent part in the pics is the actual frame rail I also don't see how that got bent besides impact???

Strange. Good luck Sir.

Do you have the equa flex / morride spring trunnions ? Are the rubbers shot or broken? The bend in the flange looks to be from the u bolt contacting it. Probably not the end of the world.

I wouldn't worry too much about the frame, my only concern would be the axle being bent. (Possibly) I would suggest looking into a set of heavier axles/springs and not look back as far as that is concerned. As far as the slide, have you tried " bumping" it as the DW operates the switch? It could be jammed and just needs a little "help"

We've been able to operate the slide but currently are at a point where it stopped maybe 4-5" on the way out.

The bunkhouse slide is a Schwintek that has been replaced 3x now in 5 years. The error code is showing "hall switch ground problem" or something like that.

We are at a long-term RV park in Windsor, CA. We are parked in a site until Tuesday, at least.

Frame no Big Deal, removing spring hangers,no Big Deal! Lippert installs "Gussets" along the Frame Rails all the time when installing their "Lift Systems"! Now just ask around and find a "Welding shop/portable welder/or even a Exavation Co" they ALL can "Fix You Up"! There are Trailer Parts places where you can secure the hangers and the gusset material should be readily available also! Hell the Frame needed upgraded anyway! Youroo!!

That's a real bummer and one of my worries being on the road full time. Hope it all works out OK, maybe you will end up with heavier duty axles and not have to worry as much about weight.

At least Windsor is a decent area to be stuck in. You are in the heart of the wine country and not far from the coast. If you take a trip to Bodega Bay and like clam chowder, Spud Point Crab Company has the best I have ever eaten. [emoji106]

We stayed in Windsor last Christmas at the WorldMark Resort, took a couple week break from being in the TT.

Wishing you good luck on Tuesday!
