TT Was Vandalized

Last week my TT was broken into. Damage is to the window by the kitchen table. The diminsions are 41 Wide by 21 High as measured from the inside of the frame closest to the wall opening. It is a split window with the bottom half that tilts out. The local dealer quoted me a price in the $600.00 range, they doing all the work. The manufacture mark for the window reads "KIRO" or "KWRO" and it is on the hand crank. The glass itself has no markings. Where can I get this assembly cheaper. I can install it as I have been in the paint and body repair business for 32 years. Help.

Is your insurance deductible to high to make it feasible to go that route? RV windows aren't cheap. My mother in law was looking for one for her rig and was amazed at the prices. Most of the windows I have seen are made by Herr(sp?) You might try doing a google search for RV salvage and wrecking. There used to be a local place here that had 100s of salvage windows in different sizes but I think they went out of business.

Sorry to hear of the break in. Would love to catch the little *(&*^* in the act, they'd be staring down the barrel of a .40 S&W real quick.

See if Forest River will sell you a window directly, these are fairly easy to replace

Window Replacement

I had the back emergency exit glass in my 8315 ss broken out last fall. I took the frame out and took it to a local glass shop and had them put new glass in it. For tempered safety glass it was only $75 installed back in the frame. I then put it back in the camper myself. It was a pretty easy repair. The dealer was wanting in the neighborhood of $500 for the glass and about 5 weeks to order it. The place I had do it had it back to me in 5 days. Granted the frame was not damaged. I would call around. Some people have replaced with tented plexiglass also... Hope this helps some

Take the trailer to a local Glass Shop. They'll replace it for a lot less $$.

x2. This way you know that you are replacing the window with the correct one.

New developments. After the sheriff fingerprinted the entry point she told us she had a suspicion of who it was. She knocked on our door tonight and told us the rest of the story. She parked her patrol car in the woods behind our house and waited. Two days of waiting. At one A.M. this morning she caught the two little turds lurking by my back yard fence. She lit them up with the spotlight and took them down. I asked her why she did not let them hop the fence and she told me that these two turds had been under surveilance for a while for other crimes. All the sheriff's department needed was intent. They have the two turds finger prints on the TT which is proof that they did the crime on Monday by breaking into my camper. Lee County Ga has a kick ass sheriff department. These two little pieces of crap now have multiple charges from my break in and other charges from other break ins. Ha...good guys one...thugs zero.

Now for part two of the window saga. The window is made by KIRO and I found their website. I called them. All I need to do is remove the screws holding the inside frame and look at the data plate on the inside of the frame.
I can get this puppy for a whole lot less than the dealer. The glass is broken and also the crank mechanism so I need the entire assembly.

That' great news Bill. Glad the police caught up with them. Wished we had as dedicated law enforcement out here but they are too busy writing tickets to speeders to actually solve any real crimes.

Hey there BillU. I know some people at Kinro if you need a window. See, the dealer will call FR, in turn getting a 'dealer price' then the dealer marks it up 250% and calls you! I believe that they will sell to you directly. 2 things they will need to know, black or white and the number on the tag inside the frame. (574) 534-6660

I accidentally broke a window in an old Coachman TT and hauled the entire camper to a glass place.

The guy ended up removing the window frame and made a piece to fit. Total cost was $75 and it took him about a week. I then had to install the frame (which wasn't too difficult).

Try to find a local glass place and bring them the window frame. It may be worth a shot.

Due to the fact the crank mechanism was ripped from the window frame I had to replace the entire assembly at first. Upon further inspection I can fix this puppy by simply fabricating new crank end attachment points on the old window frame. Brad them in, warp the window frame to make it flat again , its only off by three degrees, and I'm home. Will be machining the parts tomorrow. Total cost in parts...one dollar. Total cost in labor...well, the dealer gets $100.00 per hour. My time, one hour. So I guess the wife has to let me buy $100.00 of anything I want. How much does a tornado black water tank thingy cost?
Oh Oh Oh....I forgot, I just formed my own union, now I can set my own prices. I think about $475.00 will do it now. Yes there is a God and he is smiling at me saying "go for it". A new fly rod might be in order, yes?

Tell the sheriff you will drop all charges if the 2xturds pay all your cost...and then join the Marine Corps. Jail will do them no good. Lots of Judges here in the south will allow such a plea. BTW charges reinstate if they drop out of boot camp.

Now tell us what you used to wash off the "Turd Prints".

I'm glad everyting worked out.

Turd Prints were removed by a solution of Dawn dishwasher detergent. Not a really hard job but in the future the prints may be removed by Smith and Wesson.
