Turn off Thermostat Necessary?

Went out this weekend for a quick trip and returned my unit to storage this afternoon. I turned off the propane but when I got home realized that I did not turn off the thermostat. Will the furnace blower continue to run from the battery even if the propane is off and drain my battery?

Possibly. It's certainly gonna try a few times before it my lock itself out

You don't say what make or model of furnace you have.

Looking at the Suburban owners manual attached, most models will attempt to light 3 times. After it fails 3 times (no gas) it locks out and turns off the fan after some period. Starts on page 23.

yes, itll try 3 times then lockout. it wont do anything then till its shut off and turned on again.

Not the end of the world, but id go back there and shut it off before it kills the battery

Actually, you should have a disconnect switch so you can completely disconnect the battery from the trailer. If you don't have one, you should install one. Then you only need to remember to turn that switch off.

When you install that cut off switch, put in the negative cable.

I always pull my battery and store it inside so it wont freeze and once after a few months stick a trickle charger on it and all my other battery's I pulled from my equipment

Doesn't matter, your propane gas detector usually runs off of 12V from the battery and will kill your battery.

A disconnect switch is a must with a camper. A cheap one is $20 and easier to install than replacing a $120 and higher cost deep cycle battery.

Checklists are great idea.

I have a "preflight" before departure checklist
I have a hookup checklist
I have a disconnect checklist

Checklists have prevented me from:
(a) forgetting my wheel chocks
(b) forgetting to check tire pressure before departure
(c) forrgetting to put antenna and vents down
(d) Shutting off battery switch
(d) Forgetting to pull up stablizer bars before towing
(e) forgetting to Lock all storage panel doors before departure
(f) Forgetting to connect the towing power plug
(g) Forgetting to lock fifth wheel hitch

You get my point. I find that when I'm rushed, I forget things that can be potentially a safety issue. When I was a military pilot, a checklist was used for virtually every aspect of flight, preflight, engine start, taxi, before hover, hover, before takeoff, cruise, landing, and after landing checklist.

and one last thing always do a complete walk around your unit looking and checking up and under also don't let the DW (damm woman) do it
