Valve Stem on Dually

I thought after reading this forum that I had seen it all. NOPE. I just took my Class A Georgetown to Ford for service. They told me they couldn't check the air pressure on the outside tires. (I know I should have checked them often, but...mybad....I will.) Anyway, the inside tires have a valve stem extension that comes out through the outer wheel. The OUTER wheel valve stem is on the interior side...between the tires. I (and Ford) can't check it. And I have no idea how I am going to get the TPMS on to that valve stem that I can't get to. I am really confused (and angry.) WHY would FR put the outer valve stem on between the tires where you can't get to it. Any thoughts/ideas???? Thanks. Fitz

I'm not sure FR installed the valve stem. Maybe it's a Ford problem.

The bare bones chassis comes from Ford and I really doubt Forest River needs to remove wheels during construction of a motorhome on top.

Not sure who really installed the wheels....just be careful finger pointing.

RUN... don't walk... away from that Ford dealership. Apparently they don't have much experience with HD dually trucks and such.

Most duallys use the same rim for inside and outside, just flipped around. Naturally both valve stems end up between the tires. Google "dually valve stems" for ways to make access easier, your local tire shop probably has those.

I agree that's a Ford issue, and not a FR install !

Google Dually Valves, have them installed, end of problem!

I had them done, and it's easy to add air or check the air pressure. TPMS are east to install also!

You can remove the hubcaps and get at them if they're anything like mine but you still can't use just any pressure guage to measure them...I tried a few before I found one I could get in that space with the hubcaps off. If you haven't removed them yet...just loosen the nuts (3 per hubcap) that have the line _____ on the body. Pain in the butt.

On our Sunseeker I hold the extenders with Needle Nose Plyers with one hand and add air with the other,,, and YES it is a PITA !!!

It can be very helpful if you have a third hand !!!

On Sunseeker I had to remove the rear hubcaps to check air pressure. Will add extensions.

Yes removing the rear Hub Caps does help,,, the extenders on ours are flexible,,, that is why I have to hold them to check or add air,,, I just this spring purchased an automotive style air chuck,,, like the ones we used to use in gas stations,,, with built in gauge,,, only works with 3 hands on flexible exertions !!! Also be very careful sticking your fingers thru the Hub Caps !!!
Or you could end up with bloody Hub Caps !!!

I'm soon to be looking / purchasing new / better stems for both the duallys and front tires.

Any recommendations on make ?

You may want to search Valve Stem Extenders here,,, there has been much talk about extenders,,, I would recommend you do not buy Flexibility ones !!!
I think you would have to have a tire shop install the new ones ???
That is why I keep screwing with the ones I have !!!

Nothing flexible, something solid, and easy to check & add air pressure!

And yes, Tire shop will be installing.

You need 135 degree metal valve extensions. I just bought some Saturday at Camping World.
