Vent cover

I bought a new range hood outside vent cover. Is there any sort of gasket or caulk, etc, that is necessary for installing it? The flap on the old one was held by duct tape when we bought our pre-owned Forester, but we were unaware until it fell off one day.

I'm a big fan of butyl tape. Put it on the back of the cover especially around the top and sides. Make sure the screw holes are covered. It's okay to go outside the edges. Once its back on gently remove the excess with something like a plastic putty knife. It's pliable like silly putty and can be shaped to fit. Once back on a bead of silicone across the top edge would not hurt. Butyl tape is more cooperative in temps above 50's.....

In addition to the screw holes which provide a path in for moisture there's the actual cutout where the laminate is exposed.
