water pump

every few hours the water pump will run for a second or two. I looked for leaks and so far have not found any. Don't know if this is normal or not. any thoughts on this.

Our old rig did this too but there was never any leaks, go figure. Our Georgetown does it too but I know with it, it is the icemaker filling.

I called Shurflo and they said if no leaks it could be a bad check valve. They will send me another check valve, or trade out the pumps. Not sure which will be easier to do. I will give that a try, when I was checking for leaks I did find some of the fittings needed to be snugged up at the bath and kitchen faucet.

In June, my pump would cycle for the same duration, but it was every 15 minutes or so. Couldn't find any leaks. Later I saw water dripping from the outside shower. Snugged up the hot & cold controls & the drip & pump cycling stopped.

You will find this common for RVs. It is good practice to check the fittings periodically to make sure they are tight. Also be sure to check your drain fittings under the sinks too.

Yeah, mine did this too. It got as bad as every 5 minutes for a bit there. I tightened everything, even replaced a couple of fittings , and a hose from the city water connection. What it turned out to be, I think, was some debris that got stuck in the hot water tank bypass and didn't allow it to seal properly. I opened and closed the valve a couple of times, no more problem until I noticed it ran again for no apparent reason last time we were out. Then I wondered if it might have something to do with the hot water tank cooling, water pressure drops some, and the pump compensates for the pressure drop. No leaks. I just turn the pump off when we aren't going to use the water for a period of time.

update: they sent me a new pump and I replaced it. the pump only runs when turned on, looks like it was a bad check valve.

Had the same problem, pump short cycled on &off,no leaks. Turned off pump, hooked to city water, the water filled the F/W tank and then ran out of the F/W filler! Called Shurflow they said it needed a check valve or better yet a new pump, take back to dealer for replacment. Problem fixed! We have always used a 40 psi reg from the first time we hooked up the new trailer to city water! Youroo!!
