What is this thing called?

Hi guys/gals! I'm new to this forum and have a question. We recently bought an '08 BR28TSC toy hauler. Upon deeper looking into it found a cracked pipe (froze). Our unit did not come with the manuals and before I call forest River I thought I'd ask here. Coming off of the water heater there is a pipe which tees off and runs into a canister. The canister is mounted inside the camper with an @ 8' pipe pipe leading outside. Opening a door outside reveals a hose with this broken pipe connected to it by a quick disconnect. Is it some sort of hot water washing hose? I don't have the unit here or I would take a pic but it looks as though the pipe and canister are 1 unit mounted in a housing that is attached to the wall of the camper. Any one know what it's called? Will the pipe come off the canister or does the whole thing need to be replaced? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Wow, what a description. You are saying canister, should be only one of two things. It is either just a canister to hold a pocket of air, so the pump doesn't run too often, or it is a water filter filter canister. If it is either one, it should be on the hose that comes from the bottom of the water heater, and not the hose that is on top. If the canister is pointing down, it is a water filter housing, and the bottom part should screw off. Never heard of a water heater flushing system, but there are other things I've never heard as well. Good Luck, and a picture would be very helpful. As for manuals, they wouldn't tell you anything anyway, very generic.

Is it possible that it is a home made air chamber? Many use the commercial ones to avoid using the pump at night when dry camping and using the "facility".
