When it comes to our roofs....how clean is clean?
I was on the roof last night cleaning it for the first time since we got the TT in May.
Mine is an Alpha-ply roof and Murphy's Oil soap is the recommended cleaner.
I scrubbed it, and scrubbed it. It went from a dark grey, to light grey but it is definitely NOT white.
So my question is.......
How clean is clean?

Mine is more like a real light gray or off white even after cleaning it. It also has plenty of a little darker gray spots all over it. I think mine is normal.

Labzy, same here. Cleaned it with Murphy's Oil soap and although it went from darkish gray to a lighter tone (I guess due to the amount of grime removed) it didn't get close to being white. However after a good coat of Protect-All Rubber Roof Treatment it got brighter (and I think closer to what I was originally expecting.)

Thanks guys!!
I think that since my roof is textured with little 'nooks and crannies' it is hard to get the dirt out of the deeper spots.
I was just curious as to how picky I should be about this, since it was my first time washing a TT roof.
I probably will get up there one more time before winterizing to see how white I can get it
I never thought of using the wash and wax, so I think I'm going to finish it up washing the sides again with that.

Last year I used a really short bristle brush and I did get it as white as new. It took me the whole day... Not sure I'm that interested in the roof being that white anymore!

Yep, me too! Although I do look at my roof all winter. My house is built in a hill so my driveway is lower. When I look out my front window I can see the roof of the trailer in the driveway. Best part is when it snows it becomes white!

Yes, it would take all day to get my roof back to it's original colour (and it is only 5 months old).
However, I probably would only go to that excessive degree of labour if I was adding a UV protectant onto it after cleansing, but I don't think I will be doing that soon.
I called the manufacturer of my roof (Alpha-ply) and the nice lady I spoke with told me that the whole roof is UV resistant and does not need applications of protectant until the thin white topcoating starts to wear and the black rubber is showing through.
So, I guess I will be satisfied with my light grey roof, complying somewhat to the latest dogma, 'Dirty Is The New Clean'.
Sounds good to me

Just my 2 cents worth...I sprinkled Comet cleanser (powder) lightly all over the roof, started at the front with a hose attached to a soft bristle scrub brush, "mopped the roof" in sections and rinsed as I worked my way back to the ladder...nice and white, and no streaks down the sides after 4-5 months of sitting outside in the weather...worked for me....I also keep the sides well waxed to cut down on stains and stuff sticking to it.
