WhProcedure to clean air conditioner filter?

Over the summer I tried washing my air conditioner filter under the sink with water and a sponge. Unfortunately all it did was get the dust all muddy and gross inside of the filter.

An RV shop guy suggested to me when I bought the replacement filter to wash it using soap and water.

How did you clean your air conditioner filters?

I use the outside shower sprayer and hot water... At least it keeps the mess outside. Compressed air would be better, but we were camping in a dusty spot.

I just rinsed it using one of the taps at the Rally. By using a tap directly I was bypassing my pressure regulator and hitting it full blast. Seemed to do the trick.

I first rinse it out with hot water to remove all the dust particles, then I hand soak in a mixture of Dawn dish washing liquid & warm water in a sink, rinse and squeeze out excess water. Hang to dry before I reinstall in camper

I have found that if you hang them, sling them, or hold them by one end while spraying they can stretch and will not fit right when you go to put them back in.

I use the plastic filter cover to support it horizontally while I spray it. then turn the filter over and rub it some to work the dust in to balls which spray off easier. its not completely clean but its a whole lot better than it was.

I use the plastic cover to lay it on and place it in the sun to dry

Go to WM and buy a pack of the filter material and cut to the same dimensions as the original filter. This way you will be assured to having a clean filter with no tears in the material.

Rinsed mine in the sink, then ran thru the dishwasher. Good results.

Dish soap and hot water, then rinse and towel dry and install back.

I vacuumed ours using the brush attachment, then washed in warm soapy water in house sink. Wrapped in kitchen towel to wick away water, then reinstalled.

After cleaning or replacing...try dryer sheets between the cover and the filter. Adds a little "bounce" odor and you throw away when dirty. Also, the filter media is dark grey and not easy to spot when dirty, dryer sheets are lighter and you can see right away when they need to be replaced.
