50 A Shore Power Cable

Well, today I unplugged my power cable from the adapter and the ground prong on the 50 Amp plug came right off. It's stuck in the adaptor. My choices are to splice another plug on, but a new cable or bring to the dealer and make a warranty claim.

Just curious if anyone else has has this happen.

I would certainly think it's much easier, quicker, and much less aggravating and time consuming to do it yourself....plus, if your current shore cord doesn't have a 'handle', you'll now have one!

If you get a replacement plug with a handle it will not fit through the hole to pull the cable through

Well if you were thinking about getting the motorized power cord reel......... now you have an excuse to do it.......... It just went from a WANT to a NEED.

Get the new cordless plugs

I found a 50-amp replacement plug that DOES fit through the hole, AND it has a handle. It is an ARCON 191186. The handle folds up so it goes through the hole and it is
much better designed so the cord jacket does not come out of the plug.

I ended up buying a replacement on Amazon. Same as the OEM, but 30'. The 25' was $122.00 and the 30' was $104.00. Free shipping. Free install (Me). Good thing I are an Electrical Engineer. I got a good chance of not ruining anything. Going camping for 12 days next week, so no time to rely on the dealer to deal with it. There's only four wires to connect. What could go Wrong? Also, I can buy some male and female ends and make a 50 A extension cord.

If this was me I'd splice on a new plug, if you're handy enough. You can cut off handle on it.

The reel is a good one.... but not cheap.

Putting in a larger screw plate to pass larger plugs in the compartment floor is another option.

Model number is Arcon 19186 (One "one" less) And yes, those do look very cool! Does it accept the cord diameter we use? Not finding any specs....

I thought about just cutting the damaged plug off and splicing a replacement, but they all look cheap, kind of like the hose splices you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. I decided that I would just change the entire cord. It connects in the transfer switch so just to be safe, I will disable my AGS, disconnect the batteries and turn the inverter off before I start touching wires. Pictures to follow later today.

I had this happen and I replaced it with a new end. It didn’t last long and I ended up have to replace the cord. If it happens again I would replace the cord with a flex cord. Several available and I found this one as a example.

Today's results. Pretty easy job. Before I started, I disabled the AGS and disconnected the control wires at the generator. Turned the battery disconnect off so there was no power at the transfer switch or any surprises while I was wiring the new cord.
