340 hp engine was fine. You only went 40-45mph up some mountain passes but it was not that bad. I wasn't be passed by any RVS going up the hills!! I averaged 9.2 miles per gallon for entire trip. Great first step in having that "full time" discussion for retirement, even though that is 10+ years away.

Nice trip!

I'm 4000 miles into my trip from Phoenix to the east coast Civil and revolutionary war fields and head back next week. I'll detail any issues that had occurred upon return.

Mike - did you have any problems along the way that you could share?

Regards,
Fred

Only issues were a chip in the windshield that caused a 2 hour delay at Safelight to fix, and forgetting to turn on engine break going down one mountain pass. I was worried about the mountains, but they were not a problem.

Great photos!
Mike -- could you PM me or post your route, places you stayed, and number of nights at each location?
We are going to do a very similar trip next summer, and want to get planning now. Only difference would be cutting out California and heading up/down through Utah, etc...

I did that trip in the opposite direction in 1985 in a rented U-Haul 27' Southwind with my family, including my 8 and 12 year old daughters. It was a great trip and we have family memories we'll never forget.

The two scariest parts were Mt. St. Helens where we had 2-way traffic on a 1 lane road with nothing but fully loaded logging trucks coming down the mountain at us and night time driving on the Pacific coast highway in California.

That is wonderful. Welcome back to Cleveland! We just did a trip to Florida and back to Cleveland a few weeks ago and the kids loved it. Your trip is definetly on our bucket list before the kids get too old to hang out with us http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...lies/smile.gif

I am glad to hear everything went well for you guys, God Bless!

I am impressed that you averaged 248 miles per day. How much time did you have to plant your feet on terra-firma?

In the fall of 2014, we did the same route in reverse: 8 weeks and 12,000 miles with three teenagers. Simply unbelievable. Oddly, when we got home and started looking at another trip this year, we were amazed at how much we didn't see. Sure is a lot out there in this great creation!

I would have taken 3 months to do it if possible. Only one day relaxing at the KOA outside Yosemite. Was not going to fight the traffic going back into park on a Saturday as planned. Given kids sports/summer camps, it was amazing I was able to do 4 weeks.

Sounds like a great trip! The Grand Canyon is on our list. Any recommendations on where to stay in the area?

We stayed at trailer village on south rim right by the visitor center. Not easy to get into, but i would try.
