Another close call with a Michelin tire

Iím beginning to question the quality of Michelin RV tires.

Attached picture shows a rupture of a bulge between the carcass and the sidewall compound. The bulge blew while maneuvering around a truck stop at low speed but the tire remained inflated. Stopped just off the property of the truck stop and had a mobile tire service come and change the tire. Technician said probably caused by impact.

This is the second XZE2 tire in the same position to develop a sidewall defect. Both were less than 3 years old by date code.

Not sure Michelin will do a thing since they would not on the first which was a much milder bulge. Click image for larger version

If it is on the outside dual and same position you may be turning to short to curbs and catching the sidewall JMHO

Be sure and keep the carcass...assuming. I am pretty sure a dealer will adjust that tire for you.

Havenít had luck with that yet. Corporate Michelin is required to look at it. Dealer doesnít want to adjust.

If ďtheyĒ said it was from impact you must have hit something. Same fault on same tire would suggest to me you hit the same thing twice. Hopefully Michelin can look at it to be sure it wasnít a defect.

There used to be a tire ďexpertĒ that hung out in this forum. I always found his comments interesting and useful.

Wonder if heís still around?

Iím not sure Michelin would admit it if it was a defect. Sales would suffer.

Underinflation for the load can also cause sidewall separation.
Once that starts happening, the failure is inevitable, but not necessarily immediate.
