Another inverter question
I've been on shore power at my house, I got to my camping spot a few hours ago. I plugged in, with a surge guard. Everything looks normal at the post. I walk inside to slide out and turn on the a/c and notice my inverter is showing "fault". I tried turning it on/off but it doesn't do anything but blink "fault". Everything in the coach seems to be working fine.
What could be happening here?

Mine just did this. You need to count how many blinks between pauses. That will tell you what it could be. You may just need to reset the inverter, or it may be something else.

Thanks, it's blinking 5 times (internal problem) I tried resetting, still blinking fault. Looks like a trip to the dealership.

First, I think you mean "converter," not "inverter."
Before you go back to the dealer (and before you leave this campground, if possible), go to Walmart, HD or Lowes and get yourself one of these:
GE 3 Prong Receptacle Tester: Electrical : Walmart.com
(If you google them, you'll find they run from about $5 to a LOT more, even though they look the same. Don't know why. In fact, at the bottom of this Walmart page you'll see one for $49.99, but it doesn't look much different than this one. I bought this one.)
I was at a state park campground 3 weeks ago and the power at the post was wired incorrectly, apparently. As soon as I would plug in, the breaker on the post would trip, even with all the breakers in the camper opened up. I could plug in a regular extension cord without the post breaker tripping, and run a light or fan from it, so I was really worried that my converter was toast. But I didn't have one of these testers to confirm the bad power from the CG. We ended up nursing the battery through the weekend.
The following weekend, different campground, I now had my tester. Checked the power first thing and it was OK, and when I plugged in, everything worked normally.

Rock I do mean inverter. This is on a motorhome. I have a tester similar to that. All power in the coach is fine.

I had the same "internal fault". Just held the reset for 15 seconds and all was well. Hope yours isn't anything serious.

I had this happen last year and resetting didn't work for me. Magnum ended up sending me a new inverter. It lasted 24 hours so they ended up fixing mine and sending it back. There is a number in the manual for Magnum and their service guy was a lot of help.

With no inverter you also have no 12v converter/charger for your house batteries. You need to be very careful as you need good house batteries to slide your slides in. My generator does not have a 12v charging circuit, so running it didn't help. I also couldn't get enough charge with the engine to charge the house batteries from a dead state. For this reason alone, I recommend everyone carry a separate battery charger. When mine failed during a weekend of boondocking, we ended up with no water, a refrigerator that couldn't run, and slides that didn't move.

I tried several times to clear the fault by resetting. No success. I woke up this morning and the inverter seems to be running normally again without any codes.

Good I guess. Did it have any extra load in it to overheat? Very odd and sounds like a loose wire?

I don't think so Phil. I unplugged from shore power, drove about an hour to the campground. I don't remember anything I did any different than any other trip we've taken. I had my front A/C on but turned it off before I unplugged. And I always look at the inverter being that it's close to the thermostat.
I hate when things "fix" themselves. Because I never really know what went wrong..

I agree. But at least it's working. I always thought that an inverter was either good or bad and I guess I still believe that so I would look for a loose wire or bad plug in something like that. Sorry not much help mostly just thinking out loud. LOL
