Typical repair cost covered by FR will come short to the actual dealer cost, so the dealer will eat the difference to keep their customers happy but will not do it for someone like me that got the RV out of state. The reason I got it out of state was that the local dealer did not have the unit I wanted and were not willing to work on price to get one. It is really a shame that FR does not have a better reimbursement system to handle their warranty claims...I hate being held hostage by dealers to either buy from them or not get serviced....

I agree with some other comments. The warranty is one year so it's not like a car with 5 years. Also don't talk to the sales department. Talk to the service manager. Tell him you are looking for a place to get your work done for many years to come. Also after the first year I would use mobile service companies that come to you. Much easier. Remember that the most expensive work will be covered by FL and cummins.

I just had a leaking valve stem replaced by a very reputable tire dealer here in NJ. I asked him what he recommended for tire pressures and he stated, 100 lbs all the way around and nothing below 95.

Wow, Jersey Guy Mike, I do not believe a reputable tire person would ever give that advice. When I had smaller tires (255's), I had to put in 110PSI in accordance to the weight and what was specified by the tire manufacturer (Michelin). Now with larger tires, I can do 84 psi in the rear and about 98 in the fronts.

Proper inflation is a must for safety, life /wear of the tires and riding comfort.

I inflate in accordance to what the tire manufacturer's specify, which differs with the weight on the tire, the tire model and size.

Being held hostage by dealers

Thank you Hank for your heads up regarding issues with dealers. Since last post I had a conversation with the folks at the other SoCal dealer and I was told that since I am not buying from them, I will be put at the end of the line when I need service and that could mean several months wait to get in. Basically, I will be black listed. I then called Terry Town and explained the situation and asked kindly to have my deposit back and naturally they declined and started threatening me of legal action for backing out of the deal...
At this point, I am so disgusted by the whole industry and I am ready to forget the whole thing and not buy an RV at all.

It is a shame, my family and I were really excited to get the RV and to go explore this great country.

I will call FR tomorrow and see what they can do, but I am pretty sure they won't do a thing afraid to upset their dealers

Jacques - I had found that the dealer that rejected me, that their service department wasn't very good. I have found an RV service that is not a dealer and all they do is service RV's. You would probably want to do that also. Have you also contacted other RV dealers say within a 100 mi radius?

As I said before, the necessity of a FR dealer for warranty is only good for the first year and on the cabin only. I saved many thousands of dollars by buying from afar. I hope this is one of your reasons for going to Michigan. Will your Michigan dealer do good on warranty services?

Sorry to have thrown a wet blanket on your dreams. I only wish that you got this information sooner.
Hank

If you do the deal, down in San Diego is one of the best RV repair shops on the West coast, RV Specialists. They are located in the north part of San Diego right between Sorrento Valley and Miramar. They don't sell any RV's, just service them. Here's the link to their web site:

RV Repair San Diego | Trailer Repair San Diego | RV Service

I have been using them for over 15 years and I can't say enough good things about them. They have always been ranked as one of the best repair shops around.

Also, there is an authorized FR repair shop here in San Diego, on the other side of Miramar, RV Solutions. Here is their link:

RV Solutions | San Diego's Best selection of Travel Trailers, Toyhaulers, and Motorhomes, complete with Parts and Service

They don't "seem" to care where you bought your coach because there are many rigs in the service area that they don't carry on the sales lot. But, I cannot really tell because I purchased my coach from them.

If a dealer is worth anything and for what any dealer good or bad charges service pays the bills so they are giving you a line of BS they need you more then you need them.

Jacques - Great to hear and I am so happy for you. You are now much wiser about RV service now and there has been some good suggestion from others on this thread about excellent service dealers in southern CA.

You are in for a great adventure in driving your new motorhome from Michigan to California. If anything comes up along the way where you need help along the way, you can PM (Private Message) any of us on the forums.

Safe Travels,
Hank
