Atwood On Demand Water Heater

The heat exchanger on my hot water developed a leak over the winter.
Googling the Atwood part number did not turn up an abundance of replacement parts. Contacted the factory and they did not have any in stock either. They also informed me that the line of Atwood On-Demand water heaters have been discontinued.
I did find a dealer with one in stock and have ordered it.

Yeah, low point drains in water bay didn’t get all the water out. Found another drain located behind the water heater under the vanity in the rear bath that I didn’t know was there.

With all the problems Atwood had with the OD50 they gave up on Tankless. I don't like mine much but will live with it until I install a Truma. The problem is Truma will only sell to a "Truma Qualified Technician" and I refuse to pay someone when I could do it myself.

I gave up on my Atwood and had it replaced with a Truma at the Truma service center in Lakeland, FL. Best investment I have made yet.

Sounds like you didn't blow out the water with compressed air. Just opening low point drains won't drain everything.

Like a couple others have said, Atwood units have "issues." After months of inconsistent water temperature in my 2016 Berkshire XLT 43b, even after the recall was performed, and several techs and phone calls to Atwwod proved fruitless, I had my "working" Atwood replaced with the Truma AquaGo Comfort water heater. While I was not incredibly pleased to spend $1,459 (total cost, including labor and travel to me in Tampa from Lakeland) for another water heater, it was money well spent. Just got back from a wonderful "camping" weekend at Barrett Jackson Car Auction in Palm Beach FL, the Truma AquaGo Comfort worked great! It is quiet, quick (10 or so seconds to have hot water), and super consistent. Just saying...

X3 Truma is the ONLY way to go - I would return that Atwood if you can and buy a Truma (get the comfort model - it is resistant to freezing)

That's a great price installed- I paid more that that for just the heater- but most places will not just sell the heater.

Eventually, one of these RV manufacturers will get it right with the tankless concept by combining the tankless system with a standard tank system.

Using the tankless to supply water to the tank, you end up with a hot water system with continuous, never-ending hot water flow with no cold water sandwiches and many other benefits. Not to mention you could select to use one or the other, or both at the same time. If one quits working, the other is your backup.

This is one of the many ways we residential plumbers make unhappy tankless customers happy.

Have the same model Atwood and experienced the same problem. After a lot of research I found that they do still make that unit but only sell it to manufactures so my local Atwood dealer had to work though a manufacturer to get it.

Simple -- it's called a Aquahot

Personally in our 2011 RB I would prefer not to have Aqua Hot. It takes up a ton of basement time and it doesn’t do anything that my furnace or water heater can’t do. They take up almost no space and are easy and cheap (compared to maintaining a Aquahot) to repair or replace. I full time so basement storage is very important.
