Atwood Water Heater Recall by FR
Just received an alert saying that FR is issuing a recall on Atwood water heaters for certain model year 2012-2016 Berkshires equipped with Atwood on demand water heaters, models OD45, OD50, and OD50CW, manufactured January 2, 2012, to August 13, 2015. It says that the recall is expected to begin January 12, 2016.
Forest River''s number for this recall is 51-11092015-0107
That's all the info I have now.

Tankless water heaters are nothing but a problem. Always have been -- Always will be. I'm a plumber and I refuse to install tankless water heaters for my customers. If they insist, I refer them to a buddy that will do it.

Are you also referring to ones for residential use? Just curious

Have to say, been using the one in my Berkshire for two years now and love it! Hot water never runs out and can adjust the temp as needed! I've heard of others with issues but mine has always worked as advertised.

Sounds like Atwood does not work any better than Gerard. Like most of this Green devices ... they are crap. Last summer was the first time I managed to get anything but cool water from our 2012Berk390BH60.

I'm listening. Our '16 38a has the Atwood. I took the door off but don't find a model number! Please please let us know what Andy says and where to find the model! Thanks much!

I have had three tankless WH's and although I have had some issues the industry is responding and making them better. The Atwood unit I have now is excellent. It works fantastic and I would hate to be without it. Not sure what unit you are talking about but I assume you don't have one. It sounds like you are comparing residential tankless WH and the RV type.

The Atwood WH is much much better than the Gerard gen I or 2. I have not used the Gen 3 but I hear it is the best. I have had the Gen 1&2and have used the Atwood now for 5 months full time. It's not perfect but works really well.
I thought you had yours all fixed and working properly?

We were talking about the Gen 3 on the Berkshire FB page and I couldn't remember who had it. Glad it's working good for you. The spec's look great.

I agree with Phil.... We love our Atwood... Never misfires and we have smoking hot water in 25 seconds every time....and for hours on end! I just worry about gas leaks so want to know what the recall is about!!!

The link posted didn't say anything about a gas link so hopefully that's not it. It said the water could get hot enough to turn to steam and cause a burn. It sounds like they have a high limit temperature issue.

I wonder if this is the unit my parents had in their shockwave. They took it in 2or3 times for no hot water. The last time the dealership insinuated they just didnt know how to use it. They traded it off that day at another dealer.
