Awning Poles?
Several popular threads in the tow-behind forums extol the advantages of Awning pole tie downs. Go to a FROG rally and it seems like 7 out of 10 tow-behinds use them.
So far, however, I have yet to see a Class A use them. So, coming from the tow-behind world to the Class A world, I am looking for advice from y'all. The floor is open for discussion!

We have an auto retract on our awning I would think poles would interfere with its operation.

So All Berkshires have a auto-retract awning?
(If so, refer to my other post about that 90º learning curve  )

I would never disable the auto retract we have different sensitivity between low, med and high. It works really well.

From what I saw at Goshen, it seems that not all new Berkshires have auto retract.

While at a Gulf Coast C/G this fall there was a (Winnebago Tour $$$) that (Disabled his Auto Retract Awning,then the Whole Awning Raised WAY UP! He finally Retracted the Awning! It was VERY Windy,and came over and sat under our 21' secured with poles Awning that had been out for 10 straight Days and Nights! I felt sorry for Him having to Lower himself to seek Shade of a V-Lite! Youroo!!

I do not know how the poles would work on a Berk. I have asked OC and he says they will but I can't understand how.  
Where would they store and how would they attach.
The awning is not very useful as it is because of the slide. I know in some models they put the awning on the slide but not on mine.
I trust the auto retract function on mine and test it regularly. Just a tug and up it goes. There are 3 setting on mine low med high. I really think that on mine the poles just aren't worth the hassle as I don't get that much shade anyway. Now if you use a drop down shade attached to the awning it would be a good thing to have the poles.

Exactly Phil. I was thinking of OC's (and Ron's) really nice drop down & side shades. Maybe not for a weekend campout but if you are staying in one place for a couple of weeks, those shades seem to be THE thing to have.
Having seen your photos, I, like you, am confused where to install the brackets on the roller.
If it CAN be mounted, my next question would be pole extension: I don't remember how long the awning poles extend but I do know a Berkie awing is WAY up there 
Finally, I wonder how close Ron's paint shop can match the paint?

I have a 2015 38A and it did not come with auto retract (wish it did) so I just bought the simple adjuster rope to ground anchor to stabilize. But if it looks like it might get windy at night I close it up to be safe.

This is how I do it. One of the poles would have blocked a hatch; so my choices were to cut it down or simply stow the poles entirely. I put them in the bumper and got a D-ring clasp thinger. It's lickety-split setup and take down. I don't mind the extra iota of effort.

Pin the poles to the upper bracket instead of bolting.
Then you can remove poles and store in basement
|
