Basement doors

Hope this will be useful for someone and will save unnecessary expense.

I had one of my basement doors blown open on freeway last year which completely destroyed the door and cost me about $1300 for the new door painted and installed.

Don't know if everyone's setup is the same but I have double doors and one right after them that open from front to back on each side of my coach. As the coach flexes the latches on these doors can work themselves out (which happened to me on the driver's side rear double door) and the door will be pushed open by upcoming wind.

I picked up 4 garage door side locks at Home Depot for 8 bucks plus change each (Everbilt Reversible Garage Door Side Lock-5020A40 - The Home Depot) and screwed them on the inside bottom of those "suicide" doors with 1/4" plywood for spacing.

The only downside is that I have to open front double door, reach inside to open the latch and open rear double door, then reach inside to open rearmost storage door but since I am not locking these latches while we are staying at CG this is not really a big deal.

The doors are opening because the "U" brackets on the coach were installed too far away from the latch on the door. I had to rework several of my doors to fix the problem. Remove the "U "bracket, place it in a vice and bend it. Re-install and they will never come loose or open.
