Bed Slide Out - Rack and pinion problem

I have a 2008 Berkshire 360 QS... I purchased it used this past May so I am a novice with regards to the motorhome. On this past trip the bed slide out started to act up... the pinion gear seems to not be fully engaging with the rack. It skips a cog or two... when this happens the slide will not come in unless someone is on the outside assisting by pushing in on the slide out while I press the in switch on the slide. It almost looks as if the pinion gear is only catching on about quarter of the gear to the rack. Hoping to avoid a major repair I need some advice. is there a best practice to fix this? There are adjusting mounts to the motor. Is it as simple as making an adjustment to these or is this a common issue that requires a more entailed repair? Thanks in advance

Check to see if the gear is still firmly attached to the shaft... May have popped a rivet or lost a bolt which would allow the gear to slip.....

Jerry,

Go to this http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ad.php?t=51205. It is a discussion on the Bedroom slide. Hope it helps! Craig

Thanks for the reply... I am a real novice on the forum but whoever redirected me to all of the replies I can't thank you enough. I look forward to participating in the future... having owned many boats in the past... it always amazed me how anxious other boat owners were to help... but this experience was terrific... thanks
