Mitchell,
And of course, it's not covered under warranty- right? With an '11 coach, how far out of warranty are you? Did you contact the FL help desk and ask them? If you did, I bet that they said something like the engine is guaranteed for 5yrs/200k miles but the belt tensioner was made by someone else and that only has a 1 year warranty. This is what I was told when I had an issue with the fan hub on my '08. How about getting in touch with Cummins?
Good luck,
Tom

I know shop rates are high but that price looks to be a bit over the top.

I would get other opinions from a couple of other shops.

Replaced mine twice on my '08 (same engine as you). Both times under warranty. The part was like $139 CAD for the entire tensioner and is about a 30 minute job. Not a big deal. Almost wasn't worth paying the $100 warranty deductible to Cummins. At $2000 they are flogging you because you drive a $200K+ motorhome.

Might as well replace the belt while you are in there, a safe play since you have been having tensioner issues, maybe the belt is glazed from not enough tension or worn out from too much etc etc.......unless they want $10K to do that! I think a belt was around $60-70 and it only takes 2 minutes to change the belt once they get the tensioner changed. I bought a spare to keep on hand as they aren't a common item at a auto parts store.

Bottom line, if you are paying more than $500 to get the tensioner and belt changed (including labour....yeah that's how we spell "labor' up here in Canada.....lol) be suspicious.

all the best,

James

Try a Cummins dealer/shop. One thing most of us forget sometimes is that Frieghtliner and Cummins are two different companies. No way that should cost that much to change.

Kenworth also works on Cummins but their shop rate will most likely be the same as Freightliner.

I was thinking of a small local Diesel Shop.

Yep, "someone saw her coming", the dirty ^#745@ 7.

And yes that SHOULD be covered under the Cummins warranty which is a full five years.

I can't believe the scumbag ripoff artists. Maybe 'cause she is a girl??

boowho??

Good luck,

That tesioner has GOT be covered under the Cummins warranty, at least IMHO.

I've decided that FL spends more time TELLING us what great CS they offer, rather than actually offering it. I love my FL chassis, but am not all that happy with the company itself. They did step up to the plate on replacing my defective shift controller box, however.

If you can get Sean on the line at CS, you've got a better chance of success, (again) IMHO.

Boowho??
