Berk fuel tanks

Not sure if I ask here, but it is specific to the Berkshire.

I was outside inspecting the cover tightness for approaching windy weather, and I noticed what appeared to be a "tad" of oil or diesel on the ground and along about 10 inches of the bottom of the cover. I would estimate it to be about 2 or 3 feet behind the front right tire.

Sure enough, one whiff told me it was diesel.

I looked underneath, and couldn't see anything of value, but did notice some had dropped to the ground from where I "believe" the fuel tank is.

Here's my question: Is there an overflow located on the tank ? I filled it up with a fuel can to the top of the neck before I put her to bed. (Actually, everytime I run the genny, I top it off.

I'm just wondering if it's possible I over filled it and a bit came out of some type of over flow. It isn't a lot.

I'm not sure if there is an overflow on the diesel tank, but if you filled it all the way it could leak from the fill hose. The fill hose is just a rubber hose with clamps.

I don't think there is an overflow. Just pours out the fill cap when she's full. Is your storage location on a flat surface?

On my '08 I had the clamp that holds the rubber fill hose to the filler neck on the tank loosen up. I didn't know about it until I was filling up one day and the guy at the next pump saw fuel coming out. I was able to get under the coach when I got home and tighten the clamp and did not have any further problems. I would think that you may have the same situation if you fill the tank up to the filler neck.

Hydraulic pressure does not compress like pneumatic. You may want to leave some room for liquid expansion and contraction when storing.

That was my original thought. Expansion out some type of vent/tube.

In any case, we got back to winter now and since it's not dripping anything now (appears to have been a one time event), I'm waiting for warmer temps before going back underneath it.

There is a vent hose and fill hose. Both should be double clamped . A clamp can be broken or loose

Over filling will cause some fuel leakage due to expansion

Leave room for expansion. When the nozzle clicks off, you're full. And if the fuel caps are in good working order, it won't matter if you aren't level when parked.
