Berkshire Awning Remote

Hello all,

After reading about and learning the systems on our new to us 2014 Berkshire 390BH-60, I've only got one system that has me stumped - the awning remote. The awning works as advertised (in & out) but I haven't got a chance to test the sensitivity control in low, med, or high retract. My issue is that I have the remote and I can't seem to set it to work. Is there a switch that needs to be turned on or near the awning motor, or is there a start procedure I need to follow. I read in another FR section to push the start button , wait 3-5 seconds, and then push the in or out button. I followed this process and got nothing. Battery lights up the indicator, so I believe the battery is good.

Any advisements? Not a crisis, but I like stuff to work.

Fred I believe the switch setting for that is not by the remote but as you walk in the door on the right side where all the switches are there is one cluster there for the awning with these settings.

Berkshire Awning Remote

Stored my remote someplace ?? Use it one time to show my son in law I had something he didn't. (Family thing). Not really sure why I would ever need a remote for the awning. The motion control switch should be right inside door with all the other switches. Salesman, lights etc.

Does your remote have the pull up antenna? If yes the battery only last a year in that type. The one without the antenna seams to last several years. I have the antenna and my buddy does not. Special 12V battery. PIA.

Silver - the remote does have the pull out antenna. It's around 2 years old now, so replacement seems to be in order. Thanks.

I didn't even realize you could set the wind sensor from the remote. Like others, I used it once to see it work, now it resides in my sock drawer in my S&B house.

Remote for awning...... Sure, I'm laying in hammock napping in the shade. Awning retracts itself because of a small gust of wind. Poof, without getting up I can put it right back out.

BTW, my hat is off the Carefree designers. I have had my awning blown up several times (by a sudden wind gust) so far that the end with the motor slammed against the coach; with no damage whatsoever. Excellent design, IMHO.

On the other side of the coin, I don't think my self retract mechanism works anymore.

Boowho??

Ha. If I needed my remote it would be in the RV. So I have to go get it. So walk past the switch to go get the remote ?? The switch works great for me. I will use the TV remote tho. I did read what you said Boo. You have the remote with you. I never think that far ahead.

Berkshire Awning Remote

I bought used. Did an 11 model 390bh have a remote? I didn't get one. How would I know if it's possible to make one work?

Russell that's probably why FR doesn't supply awning remotes any longer.

Sounds like this might remotely be the reason why our coach didn't have one then for 2014 model. I'm fine with the switch by the door also. To many gosh darn remotes to keep track of.

Cpbord over the passenger seat has the doghouse for the awning electronics. Open it up and if the hardware is there then a remote will work. I believe it is the white box in the attached picture.

Only have an El Cheapo Flagstaff 5er, but I added a remote for the awning so I could be outside and make sure it doesn't hit something when deploying. The one good thing TURBS has contributed to this FORUM.

Update- I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work. Not sure what would be the next step other than parking it in the sock drawer...........

I wonder if there is some kind of sequence or internal micro switches that need to be initialized with the unit. Maybe try their website to see if they have trouble shooting section.
