Berkshire Roof Coming Apart

During the safety inspection, I was looking at the roof and found the metal strapping holding and sealing the roof to the frame has buckled on each side of the rig in the same spot. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. See photos.

That needs to go back to the factory, IMO.

I would contact their warranty/repair folks asap before the damage becomes worse.

WOW I would fill that with some caulking and contact warranty that shouldn't happen. Keep us posted on what FR says and does. WOW

Berkshire Roof Coming Apart

I answered you post where you had it posted earlier. You should get some Berkshire response here.

Your pictures for sure made me go check mine. Mine is a 2014 as yours and I see no problem with mine.

A call to FR is a must for you. A problem occurring on both sides tell me that something rather big is going on.

Good luck. I'm guessing FR will get right on this.

Definitely get a hold of Randy at FR and send him the pictures. I would do everything I could to get it to the factory to have it repaired. No way a dealer would touch it. In the mean time get some of that tape on it. I forget the name someone will jump on here with it. The tape will hold for several months until you can get it fixed permanently.

I think Phil is referring to Eternabond tape. And as Phil said, send Randy the pictures. Definitely seal it up with something before any water gets in there.

Appears water has entered under the transition molding. You need to look very closely to see if you can detect a track or path of water entry. My guess with most all mfrs. this will be a customer maintenance determination. Unless absolutely Nesc. Try not to goop it all up till you have a RVTech look it over and at least give you a cause. I work on this type problem EVERY day. IT is very common to all makes. The larger the RV the more prevalent. These big units twist and flex unbelievably when moving and turning on uneven terrains like driveways. The sealers dry and get very solid and will either crack or break loose from the surface area. We have begun to use the new tapes developed for these areas. The rubber over the adhesive keeps the moisture from leaving the sealer and allows it to flex without breaking open.

hillsdaletc,
The OP's coach is a 2014 which means that is probably around 2 years old. I don't think that this type of situation should occur on a coach that young.

I agree it should not happen that soon. But I have discussed sealants with many of the sealant suppliers to the RV industries over the last 35 years and their research on durability is amazing but it keeps coming up as great attempts , but with the sun and weather along with all the movement of the sealed seams a real answer has not been found. Your problem is your seam is up on the roof. It catches the water along the sealed molding and the water of course finds an opening. If the roof surface was wrapped over the side it would have a clear run off of the roof quickly. It's all about appearance.

If it was mine I would not be wasting my time on any forum, you need to contact FR service and get this repaired ASAP. as the what is wrong to many things could have caused this, and unless someone can do a hands on inspection you will never have the full story.

So please contact FR asap and have the repaired as this looks like a big issue.

Sorry for your issues but Happy Camping

Completely agree with this thought. It wil be interesting to see if FR/Berkshire does the right thing here.

I am working with Mitch Wirt at FR. I talked with him yesterday and he told he was going to review with production and advise today. He said it appears that the screws broke. I went on the roof and found no screw in the opening. Thanks for all the information and I will keep the thread updated.
