Black Water Flush

I'm having trouble with my black water flush. No water will enter the tank. Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe the check valve may be stuck.
Try poking it with a tent stake or something of the sort to dislodge it.

Turbs, I think he means the TurboFlush inlet. That valve is inside the camper. Mine is located under the vanity.

There could be trash in the sprayer itself. This could involve removing the sprayer from the tank wall and removing the paper or crud that has blocked the jet.

The coach has the San T Flush system. I looked under the sink last evening and did not see anything like your picture.

I don't know anything about that system (sorry).

However there has to be a vacuum break (check valve) somewhere to prevent reverse suction/ siphoning of black water overboard.

Your first try to use it this year?? I found on my old Dutch Star that the small spray holes could get plugged when the "stuff" dries over winter. If I kept pressure on it for an hour or two eventually it would unplug itself.

We're headed out tomorrow for the weekend. I filled the black tank this evening and will dump it tomorrow night, hopefully there is just something stuck on it.

UPDATE | filling the tank and letting it sit over night in addition to adding ice while we drove this afternoon did not solve the problem. I suppose something is wrong with the check valve.

Did you ever figure out this problem? On my 2013 water will enter into the black tank from the flush line but there seems to be back pressure. When I remove the hose from the flush line about a quart of water will drain back out of that line.

I would be interested in your solution. I have the same system and just gave up on trying to flush with it. Did you try Boohoo's method? I think I will try extended light water pressure.

Two weeks ago we were in the coach for over a week. I kept the black tank filled almost full with water. On the last day I dumped the tank and tried the black water flush and you could hear it blow the paper off the nozzle inside the tank.

All is working fine now...

The flush works so much better than going back in the coach to flush the toilet several times to flush the tank.

Also while on the black tank - does anyone else use the Sanicon? We had one installed and it is great.

I have no suggestion for EJM4, but I do have a suggestion to prevent rupturing your tank. I believe that when one has a pressurized water connected to the flush inlet, that the black valve should be open. Otherwise the tank will eventually pressurize to the water inlet pressure, which is not good for the black tank.

I believe there is a vent that goes up through the coach and out the roof to vent the black and grey tanks.

You described my tank flush problem "to a T". Do I understand the above correctly that in a Berkshire 390 (RB model) I can actually access, remove and clean the black water tank flush head? Did you ever get a handle on your problem (noting your post date)?

I haven't made any progress on mine. I'm not sure it's accessible on the 390RB but I haven't looked that hard. Seems to me if possible it would involve removing the panel with all the valves in the wet bay.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know what the black water tank flush nozzle looks like? Be curious to know how much coverage it has when spraying.

I tried filling the tank with warm water, letting it sit, and pressuring the nozzle while draining and for two hours afterward. I never really lost all flow through the nozzle, but it is apparent that there is excessive backpressure, which limits the flow. Also, when the hose is removed, about a pint of water flows back out. No change - I think the nozzle just may just have orifices that are too small of a diameter.

I talked to Andy in the parts department about this, and learned that the nozzle has an integral backflow preventer, which I think may be the culprit - it either doesn't open all the way, or in cases of no flow, not at all. I will get a look at a new one (an hopefully photograph it) while in Elkhart for minor warranty work at the end of September.

As I said, I do get about half the flow I should be getting, but I don't think there is enough volumetric or forceful flow to clean the tank walls. I will say that fillling the tank with warm water does a good job of cleaning what I had thought was a clean tank (obviously you need a transparent section of drain tube on the outlet to determine this - I think most RVers already have this).

Like this one.

They work great and I put another one in my gray tank for soap and hair removal.

The end spins and tumbles shooting the water stream all over the tank walls and sensors.
