OK, to be complete, it appears there are multiple pigtails out there. MINE had a small fuse in the power wire..... There are others which have proper wiring. I bypassed the wire with the fuse and went directly to the back side of the plug that's under the dash.....

Later a friend got a pigtail that had a proper sized wire sans small fuse and he went straight plug to plug.

The power supply from the chassis is fused, like you said, so there is no need for an additional fuse.

This guy should work if you're getting that brand controller. Otherwise you can cut off their plug and connect to whatever comes with your controller....
