Ace Hardware has Camco non-toxic RV anti-freeze on sale for $2.99/gal with a $1/gal (limit 3) rebate. That makes the price $1.99/gal. Good deal IMHO.

I might should stock up - this winter is going to be very different for us as we are taking our camper out for one full week EVERY MONTH, including all through the winter. So, I'll be winterizing frequently this year.

Robert, you may wish to consider blowing out the lines since you are winterizing frequently. You'll still want a little antifreeze for the traps and seals, but much faster to use a compressor. My 2-cents.

I'm sure that's what I'll do - my previous unit didn't have winterization capabilities and for 6 years I blew out the lines and poured anti-freeze down the P-Traps. Worked fine for me then - so I expect I'll be doing the same thing with my new one.

what exatcly is the benefit of using the winterization hose and pump vs just blowing the lines out and putting some antifreeze down the traps??

its always seems easier to me to de winterize when you dont have to flush all the lines of antifreeze....my thought is that is the lines are blown dry there is nothing to freeze....so why fill them with antifreeze???

im in texas, and we may see a handful of days below freezing, and even less that stay that way ALL day......

so what is the benefit if any?

There is no benefit to using AF over a compressor. Especially if you are in TX.

I suppose, if not blown out well enough, there could be a chance that water could freeze in a dip in the hose. But that's about it, I think.

The benefit of a compressor is the easy de-winterizing next spring, as you said.

Have you actually been there bought that?
I just searched their website and it doesn't even list camco antifreeze
or rv antifreeze.
Checked their online sale ads also.
We have an ace in the next town.
I don't wanna drive all that way if they don't have it.

I'm thinking other local stores will have it on sale this fall.
They usually do.

Yes- I bought 3 gals yesterday. If you look on the ACE website under rebates for Aug 20 thru Sept 30, you will see the line for Camco RV Anti-Freeze Gal. sku 81003. I couldn't find it either it when I did a search on their website. Why don't you just give them a call.

Well...let me tell you one thing NOT to forget when blowing out the lines. With our previous fiver, one winter I failed to open up the outside shower when I was blowing out the water lines.

Guess what - when you're in a seaside resort town the next Spring and water is gushing out all over your camping spot...it's hard to find someone to sell you a new faucet kit.

Yep - I learned the hard way, so don't forget to open the outside shower and blow all the water out of that as well.

That's a very good reminder. ALL lines and ALL faucets need to be either blown out or filled with AF. I know one of our Canadian members does a mix of the two for extra protection. The PEX lines actually flex a bit so certainly provides some protection (although I wouldn't rely on it) but the fixtures are usually some type of metal or hard plastic.
