carefree over door awning broken

In the middle of our trip(of course) the Carefree Marquise door awning broke. The motor, on retraction, began to free wheel. Our investigation yielded that this is a fairly common problem. The motor that drives the roller snaps free from the rivet on the roller. I ended up on the roof with zip ties securing it for the rest of the trip. Have any others had this same issue? Ours is a 2010 390bh.

I have a Dometic, but have devised a lock that stops the roller from turning if the rivet or motor shaft breaks. The complete set of pictures: Forest River Forums - dunnnc's Album: Awning lock

Thanks Dunnnc
I think the Carefree uses a different system. It has two loaded swing arms the force the awning open. The motor is attached to the roller to pull the awning in. When the motor and roller connection broke, the awning extended. I had my son compress the arms while I hand rolled and pulled the awning closed from the roof. Zip ties completed the process.

I would think anything that stopped the roller from turning would have helped. I have seen one idea of a large hose clamp holding a med. sized "D" ring and a chain and spring (from a storm door that will only compress so far) hooked to the bottom of the mounting channel used.
