Crappy shower valve replaced

Just replaced the cheap shower valve and control in our new Berk. We have an Atwood tankless and found it a pain to adjust the temp while in the shower. Purchased a Delta Lahara Pressure Balance valve and now the temp problem is completely solved.

I would suggest this to anybody who has the same issue with adjustment during their showers.

Boxers,
Where did you purchase this and what did you need to purchase? I see that there are references to a valve, is that something that needs to be replaced also? What did you pay?
Thanks

We have same issue on our 2016 38a. Love the Atwood tankless on all other faucets but shower is a pain to adjust. Any product number and pictures and "how to's" would be greatly appreciated as we'd love to fix our issue as well!

Thanks!

I bought the valve and handle online from Home Depot. Attached are the 2 hyperlinks.

You should be able to use any Pressure Balanced valve and handle. It will do the same thing.

I just used the Sharkbite connectors I got locally at the Home Depot to connect them. If you are familiar with plumbing, it shouldn't be hard to do yourself. But hire a plumber if you're not sure.

Total cost was about $220.

tmmar, let me know how you make out with the conversion. Does your unit have the Atwood tankless and do you have the same temperature control issue?

Does the control you installed have independent flow control and hot/cold mixing control? I have a house shower control that is always full flow and allows mixing hot and cold.

My coach has the Girard heater. Have some minor issues with temperature control but looking to eliminate them completely.

Yep, two levers. One flow and one mixing.

Did you replace the shower head also?
Any feedback on that if you did?

Is the mixing lever for when you have a tub spout and shower head? How does that work when you only have shower head?

Dan,
Which shower head do you have? I replaced my with an Oxygenics and it really make a difference with the water pressure coming out of the head. Much better.

Tom
We are using the stock head that came in out 2014.
We had an Oxygenics in the last rig and am familiar with it. I actually have a new one in the closet I was going to put on while dry camping at Nascar races to save on water.

We are not unhappy with the stock head.
I just wondered about the one shown in the link as it shows a 'fixed' shower head without a hose,

Didn't replace the shower head but one could as easily as in your house. One did come with the trim kit I bought, I just didn't think it necessary to change it.

The mixing lever would control any water coming from the valve, including a tub spout if you had one.

Hey Boxers, would this one work? Delta Lahara Monitor 14 Series 1-Handle Temperature Control Valve Trim Kit in Venetian Bronze (Valve Not Included)-T14038-RB - The Home Depot

I don't want to replace the shower head.

Gasman94,
The link you sent over isn't for a pressure balance valve. There is no mixing lever so unless you wish to just change the trim kit without the ability to adjust the temp as I have indicated, you should look for another kit. I believe the Lahara I purchased does also come in the Venetian Bronze though.

To all that have responded,
I don't want to suggest that my solution will solve all your problems. I believe the worst problem I had was the hard time we had adjusting the mix between hot and cold with the crappy valve and trim kit supplied by Forest River.

A pressure balance valve with the mixing lever DOES solve issues of hard to adjust shower valve handles, along with the fact that any faucet turned on in the motorhome during your shower will not affect the temperature during your shower. It's main feature is that it counters any drop in pressure from either side (hot or cold).

Very simple really.

Another note on the shower head, I was not able to find a Delta trim kit (pressure balance) without a shower head included. I seem to remember at one point prior to the switch that some internet site had a full kit without the shower head but including the needed pressure balance valve. Never could find the website again when I went to purchase so I ended up at Home Depot online.
