I bought two of these; one for the car and one for the truck. You can see the quality of the video in my previous post. The camera seems to do better closer in (can read tags within 15 feet or so).

Rexing V1 2.4" LCD FHD 1080p 170 Wide Angle Dashboard Camera Recorder Car Dash Cam with G-Sensor, WDR, Loop Recording-Newegg.com

I also went to their web site and bought the GPS "Logger" that plugs into it (just a small antenna thing) that puts your current speed on the video. If you are a "speeder" you most likely won't want to do that.

One piece of advice I was given in regards to dash cams. Turn the speed recording off. If you are in a acorns it shows you were even going a few miles over there is no since in incriminating yourself.

I got G1W dashcams from SpyTec. Good service from the company and only $50 each.

I can see your point, but most times we are within 5 MPH of the limit.
Well within the circle of error in most systems.

I just ordered the hidden version (all Black) G1WH and will get it Saturday. Had pretty good reviews across multiple sites on the net. At $50 if it isn't what it's supposed to be then I'm not out much.

I have five of them and only had one that was just about dead on arrival. SpyTec replaced it within five days. All have performed flawlessly. Yep, they are cheap and the plastic body looks and feels cheap, but it you take care of it they will do just fine. Picture quality is great and night vision pretty good. I don't use the infrared because, like with all similarly equipped dash cams, it reflects back from the windshield into the lens.

I presently own a Garmin dashcam. However, if you live in an area that gets very hot (in the South), look for a capacitor-powered unit. The heat kills batteries after about a year. You want one with a G-sensor (automatically saves the file if the sensor is activated - accident) and preferably one with internal gps. Figure on spending at least $60 for a decent one. You don't need high-end models, as the more reasonably priced models usually have all of the same features.

Exclamation

How do you all deal with vehicles entering the highway when you are travelling the shoulder lane

Yes, when I see a vehicle ahead that will be merging onto the highway, I will move over to the left if I can. However many times I cannot and many times the entering vehicle comes along side and just keeps pushing over.

I do not about you, but I was taught that whenever you change lanes, you must yield to any vehicles in that lane, since they have the right-away. The universal lane merge sign that shows the right lane ending should have the iconic yield sign embedded in it.

I lost count of how many times merging vehicles at a slower speed then I am, just come out and cut you off.

Those clown cannot judge your speed due to a large unfamiliar size. They think being behind you will slow them down. All you can do is give them the single finger salute and smile.
