Sorry, and you are correct. We live at the coast and anything under 55 for a high this time of year is cold for us. Jan and Feb it does cool down though. Snow here at the SE coast is extremely rare. I'll leave on the 7th so there is no need to winterize.
Weather as you describe is why I moved from NE Ohio. Best thing I ever did.

I love the NC coast. Both of my kids were born in Jacksonville NC.

Jax sounds like USMC! USMC also sounds like a reason you are no longer here. My S&B is about 1 1/4 mile from the beach (4 minutes from the marina where the boat is kept) and less than 10 minutes from the SC border. Hope you can get back down one day soon to stay! Now if I want to see snow ~~ I turn on the weather channel.

Yes the fancy gap grade is a good 7%. Take it slow and easy!

Oh and the NC traffic is still a nice treat compared to the nightmare I used to encounter when I lived in northern MD and Southern NJ. The Jersey turnpike was always bad. Travelling 95 through DE and MD always netted back ups at the tolls. Let's not even get started on D.C. traffic.

Guilty as charged. We full time now and expect for Christmas we avoid any cold weather. We have a lot in Fort Myers and one in Traverse City Michigan. Two great cities.

Traffic

My experience is that most long haul truckers are professional, careful and courteous. Most like to run just about the speed you have chosen to cruise at. 64 mph. They're working and trying to be as efficient as possible...to get around you they have to accelerate and maybe even change gears.....Try cruising at a lower speed so they can get past you quickly and safely. They'll appreciate it and respond in kind.

As far as crazy traffic is concerned, wait until you hit Miami....

We use a phone app called Waze. I use it to navigate even though I know how to get to our destination. Most always, the app will show slow downs and traffic and will suggest a reroute. It shows disabled vehicles and police reported. Relying on persons devices traveling ahead.

I love Waze and use it much like you mentioned. The last few trips have not been good for Waze. I has started to lock up my phone ( iPhone) and several time it wouldn't find a destination. It also will not work for destinations further than 1000 miles. Hopefully it will get fixed as I really like it.

Google Maps has started showing some same information as the Waze app. Made me think they were sharing information now.

Dan,
Paulie just said the same thing. I have seen that also. I send feed back to Waze and sure hope they fix it. We may have to go to King Wazo to have him fix it.

Google bought Waze a while back. I do like the feature that will tell you there is a problem ahead. Usually it will give me enough warning to get off and go around, then other times I find out there is a problem when I get stuck in it.

Aaron

That explains why they are having issues lately.

Left Harrisburg Pa at 3am today (new years morning). Took 15 to 270 to 495 to 95. As expected, no traffic anywhere. Sailed through DC at 5am. Clear everywhere. Traffic slowed to the speed limit a few times in SC but that was it. Arrived in Brunswick Ga at 4:30 in time for happy hour.

New years day is a great day for travel while everyone is sleeping off the effects of NYE.

Believe me, I am not a fan of 3am roadtrips but it was well worth it to sail through DC without the usual traffic. I would do it again.

About halfway somewhere in the middle of North Carolina. Took the East shore and reconnected with 95 South of DC.....

Moderate traffic is the worst we saw.

I ran that route for years and hated it. Then moved to the PA/OH line about 5 years before moving away from the cold/snow. With family still on the PA/OH area I never see 95 above SC while heading south. From the west side it is 60 to 79 to 19 (WV) to 77 to 73/74.... could pick up 95 many places from Lumberton NC to Florence SC. About the worst roads in that area are I80 and the PA turnpike. In the south it has to be 95 in Florida.

I too am not a fan of early morning departures. But, living on Long Island, there is really only 1 way for me to get off Long Island with my Berkshire. That is to take the Throgs Neck bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway to the George Washington Bridge. Unless you get to the Cross Bronx by 4-4:30 AM, that 7 miles (that is the length of the Cross Bronx Expressway) it could take you anywhere from 45 minutes (if you are extremely lucky and all the stars are aligned) to 2 to 2+ hours (a very real possibility). This is a major route taken by almost every truck going to and from Long Island from New Jersey and New England.

OK, did a Cannonball Run today from the Flying J in the middle of NC all the way to Fort Wilderness...... Yes, did the slinky a few times around Savannah. Other than that had a pretty good run. Got here at 21:00
