What have you done in these areas if they were the same in your coach ? I've seen people say steel wool, then spray foam, covered with undercoating. Some of the penetrations in other areas have been done and look like they're covered with some sort of grayish looking spray. Anyone know what that is ? Is the steel wool really necessary ?

Mice will gnaw through almost anything EXCEPT steel wool. It completely ruins their teeth and tears their mouths up. According to the DW's research, anyhow. Moth balls work really well(mice hate them), but those damn things even run ME out the door!!!
Boowho??

We use original scent Irish Springs soap. I buy the large pack from Costco that contains about 10 bars. I use a large knife to shave each bar into 1/8 inch strip. I put about 6 strip each into open zip lock bags. Put one bag inside each compartment door and several though out the coach.
I started doing this about 12 years ago and have not had a mouse in the coach since

For the winter, I always clean everything out really well using bleach wipes to eradicate the sent of food. I leave bounce dryer sheets throughout the trailer . I usually will open up a bottle of peppermint oil and leave a 2x2 piece of gauze sticking out of it. The mice hate the smell of the peppermint oil. Has worked for 4 years now.

Joe are those opening around the structure all open. My basement is pretty tight. Whatever open areas are foamed. I would think that your should be as well. I would get some spray foam and go for it.

The openings on one side are all foamed. The other side that I took the pictures of are completely open. Maybe it was a Friday, or break time at the factory . Not sure but yes I intend to get them closed up, probably this coming weekend.

Put mouse traps in the basement bated with peanut butter. No matter how hard you try you will not close down all the highways. Cannot close down down timing shaft for slide from Equalizer. Kill them as soon as they get in or you will regret it.

Tackled some of this job today. Had a full can of foam insulation here left over from adding on to the house so I only picked up 1 can at Home Depot.
Went to use the can I had, never opened, and nothing. Actually the nozzle broke off also. Looked at the date on can, 2008. Guess nothing last forever ! Anyways I ran out so still need to pick up another.
So I used the foam, added layers of steel wool and then more foam over it. Should work out good.
The top layer doesn't look pretty, stuff is tough to work coming out of the can. Once it dry's good I'll take a blade, shave it down then hit it with some spray paint.
Also noticed about a 2 1/2" hole in the basement ceiling that I'm thinking maybe for heat. Anyone notice that before ?

I have the same thing. It's like they drilled in the wrong place.

Dan I can get a picture tomorrow but it's on the passenger side of coach in the section that has the smaller of the basement doors towards the rear.

Why do you say that Phil ? I didn't turn the heat on and see if any came out, just figured that was near a chase of some sort. Must be harder to heat under there if all them spaces around the frame rails are left open.
Hey ! Who needs heat when they're in Florida ? lol

Had significant heat blowing out , I'm thinking of trying to find a register that will fit the hole so that it can be adjusted if need be. By closing this down some you'd get more heat above in the living room. Just a thought.

Joe not necessarily restricting air flow can hurt efficiency since the furnace is sized to move so much air and upper limit can trip shutting off warm air to where you want it.
I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Also some heat had to go into the basement compartments to keep plumbing from freezing you may have done yourself more harm than good be closing off those areas.

Well haven't done anything yet. Doesn't seem to be any plumbing in this section of the basement. Not sure that I would close it off, just adjust it some. With all the areas that I closed up down there seems like it would be fine with less heat, but I agree it would have to be monitored.
Heck I'm not going anywhere this winter just making conversation.
