Maintenance free should require minimal venting.

Mine has 6 in the battery compartment 4 house and 2 coach regular lead acid so they need lots of venting. I guess I'll be finding some mesh to put in to keep critters out.

Hey they're just looking for a little shelter from the killer winters you have up there.

Peppermint Oil: pour onto cotton balls or on paper towels. Place in compartments. Rodent HATE peppermint and will avoid the area. You can also use peppermint mouthwash: pour into spray bottle and spray around wheels and under coach. You can plant peppermint bushes around your RV pad, but the mouthwash is more concentrated.

I cut a piece of aluminum window screen and siliconed it in place over the outside of the ventilation hole on mine. I didn't want any mice, squirrels, wasps or snakes catching a free ride and surprising me when I opened the battery compartment lid. Screen allows air to circulate while keeping unwanted guests out.

Hi Craig,
Yes, if the Military didn't place it there, they don't want it there! Hopefully the peppermint oil works! Good Luck!
