Dash A/C recharge?

Happy travel season to all! Has anybody ever re-charged their dash a/c? Mine is blowing warm. I found what looks like two freon ports up front in the genny housing. One is to the lower left of the genny, other is in the middle top of genny. Found a label that says 2.5 lbs refrigerant but, but also says to be done by qualified personnel only. Anybody ever tackle this project? Headed to Arizona in 3 weeks. Need cold dash air!

Thanks!

Mike

Not to hijack this posting/question, but has anyone experienced their front AC unit just not blowing air (after blowing for an hour or two just fine)? I was wondering if it was icing up. I would shut it off and 50 miles later, turned it back on and all was fine again...happened multiple times on our trip last week across country.

Hoping to learn more about the recharge too.

I would recommend a professional for this job. There could be a number of issues. If its low on Freon you have a leak. But with that said you could have a condenser fan not working or a pressure switch gone bad. Most shops have a machine that will suck all the Freon out (good way to measure how much Freon you have in the system) create a suction in the system and wait to see if there is a leak. With a negative suction -10lbs or so if you have a leak your gauges will return to 0 real fast. If all is good at that time they can inject fresh oil and Freon. I recommend finding a certified shop. Good luck!!

When my Ac blew warm it was a switch, for what it's worth. I'm in phoenix and it's only 111 degrees so you'll need a lot more BTU's if your coming here! We have a room ac that we duct out our drivers window that adds 10,000 BTU's to main cabin...

Hey Mike,
I'm currently in the same situation that you are in. My dash AC has blown warm air for the last few months (2014 390BH). My plan was to do a few trouble shooting measures at my house next week before brining her in. Doubt it's the freon, probably something simple I hope. I will keep you posted as well if i find something, if you find a resolution to this let us know. Thanks

When I get home I'll try to post the switch that broke on my 2014. It was a few dollars so if that part is bad could be a quick cheap fix.

You can get a R134a recharge kit at any auto supply or Wal-Mart.

They have an easy to read gauge and the hose will only attach to the low pressure connection.

freightliner replaced item # "001v/phm 1 1955" with description of "term wire sealed cri" part cost $0.95. They also wrote "wire was loos at the high psi side switch and replaced spade connector." Maybe they sell them mail order? hope that helps!

Find an AC service shop, possibly Cummins. They can inject a dye into the system and use a UV light to find any leaks. Get the leaks fixed first or you're back to start in no time. If you need to replace a hose, etc., by law, the system has to be suctioned and the refrigerant properly disposed of.

As irony would have it I picked up my coach to go out of town tomorrow for vacation and my dash was again blowing warm luckily freightliner here in town I drove straight there they fixed it said sorry about it and its blowing cold. it was an O ring that was the problem. How lucky was I that they just had a light day and could squeeze me in and fix it... that's one big plus for Freightliner in my book

No luck solving on my own. All the fuses look good. Guess i have to bite the bullet and have a pro look at it. I just cringe at the $115 hourly rate they charge.
