I have a Garmin and have been satisfied with it. Thankfully, I haven't actually needed it but it is comforting knowing it is there.

I use my old iphone5 and have a "car camera DVR lite app"
Works great only cost me 2 buck for the app and 15 for the mount.

I have one of the popular $45 cameras. It was pretty handy when it was in the shop. After I got it out I was able to go back and look at every time they moved it and activity around it.

I have a Garmin and love it except for the suction mount. Stays up for only a few days.

I got the Garmin 35 before our last long trip. Worked great. Mounting to the windshield is an adhesive Fisk and they provide an extra in case you need to move it

My wife bought me a Polaroid Cube. Relatively inexpensive at $99 bucks. Has two record settings at 720p or 1080p. Also bought a 32gig micro card which records for about 6 hours before it records over itself, along with a clear plastic case with suction mount that sits right on the dash, and plugs into my 12v outlet. Works great, and provides documentation for accident purposes.

I have a sub $50 camera from Amazon that I put a 16GB card in it. It records in 3 minute loops and overwrites the oldest file as needed, and with 16GB gives me about 2 hours ov vid at "full HD". Looking at the video it captures it is pretty good during the day, at night lights can wreak havoc on it if they catch it at just the right angle. Overall I am very happy with it and hope to never need to get video off of it for any reason.
