Received the receivers from Direct tv this weekend. Just got back from a camping trip and we are headed out to Elkhart tomorrow to get the Berkshire emblem replaced and a few warranty issues fixed. I will set up the Direct tv tomorrow night while camped at Total Value dealership. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm back from Elkhart and the warranty work is completed. I was able to get the Direct tv hooked up and playing on all TVs. The receivers I got from a supplier out of Iowa, that Winegard set me up with worked right out of the box. Much easier than dealing with Direct tv.

Wanderer.........I have a specific question, and feel free to PM me if it is off this thread too far. But one thing you said has me curious. I try to keep up with how DirecTV works specifically and satellite TV in general. Many on here, NMWildcat and others, are very knowledgeable about it all. And I remember how I pulled my hair out the first 3 years with that bumper pull trailer before I figured out how to make satellite work in an RV. I'm also sure that a higher end MH like yours is probably not wired for tv exactly like a trailer, but not sure.

But one thing you said has me scratching my head. Who did you sign up with for the service?? I can understand Winegard supplying the equipment and talking you through how to connect to your existing wiring. That's good. But it's the part of "who do you pay monthly" that has me scratching my head.

Feel free to PM if you don't want to publish. And forgive my curiosity (and ignorance on this).

Thanks.

I know it was a little confusing to me too. I called Wiengard who walked me through what equipment I needed and all the Direct tv plans available and the monthly rates. After deciding on a plan and equipment needed they set up my account with ATT and Direct tv. They then had a third party who specialize in satellite tv call me. They set up the equipment and had it ready to plug and go for me. They charged $40.00 to set up and ship out to me.

OK, I see. So you now have an ATT account, just like me, us, etc.

Well, glad it worked out. It's expensive, frustrating, and crazy. But I gotta have my Cardinals and other sports.

We're getting ready to head out for a three month journey west and I wanted a TV for the wife to watch at night. She is a night owl.

That sort of answers the question. Up till recently you could set up a receiver and call it in to DirecTV for enablement. I have heard that they stopped that and you need to go through a dealer to get receivers registered. Sounds like that is what you did.
