Dodged a bullet

Well - the good Lord definitely took care of this old man...

Finished up with our packing and was now time to close up all slides - and you guessed it - bed slide started in and stopped !! Backed it back out and tried again and motor runs but slide doesn't move...

At that moment, I could see a totally screwed-up departure time with all kinds of issues to resolve...

Had to go get wife because I needed someone to push the button while I looked under bed at mechanism... I figured the roll pin in the drive gear had sheared and I'd need to replace it... But no - shaft and gear both turned... Did notice that the motor drive gear wasn't touching the long gear attached to the bed so there was no way it would drive the bed in and out...

After climbing under the bed, loosening the 4 bolts that held the drive gear in place, pushing the gear up as far as it would go and tightening the 4 bolts I NOW HAVE A FUNCTIONING BED SLIDE AGAIN....

SOOOOO - I'd suggest that everyone get under your bed and check those 4 bolts to possibly prevent this same excitement....

There's been lots of discussion on this one.
The bolts seem to keep coming loose over time.
A few have made modifications to try to keep it from happening.

Glad it didn't delay your trip.

Loctite 262 is the best for this application. Have been using it for years. Better than lock washers.

X2!! Same here!

Does anyone know if there a specific torque that the bolts should be tightened to?

From what I remember reading from other posters, parts of the mechanism are made of aluminum and may crack if the bolts are tightened too much.

We just need a like button. Glad you got it going. I would not expect that on a 08. It's funny that it all the sudden came loose.

Does the bolt go thru a shaft or just tighten against a shaft?

OC I think the bolts hold the motor in place. If it what I have in mine. It's been an issue on most all the Berkshires. I'm not sure I understand why as the motor only runs a couple of seconds and there shouldn't be much vibration. I think loc tight is a answer but it should hold with the bolts and lock washers.

Well I just checked the bolts on mine & sure enough the bolts were hardly tight at all, removed one at a time & applied thread lock! Thanks for the heads up, Ernest!
