Engine Oil Survey

Getting ready to do my annual engine maintenance and am wondering what brand/type of diesel oil all you people use. Comments??

I don't have any diesel engines but I would use the same oil that I have in all of my vehicles....Amsoil synthetic. (But for regular oil, Valvoline is my favorite.)

Amsoil 15w-40 in the SD 7.3 since it was new in 2000.195k later it does not use any oil between changes (6k ) and the 7.3 has all its original parts,never been worked on for anything. Same deal with the trans.Amsoil Universal when new,includeing the converter.Added a reurn line filter but kept the stock cooler.Did one sump change at 120k, there was absolutly no residue in the pan or filter,but I felt guilty about re useing the old one ,so it got a new filter.Changed the return line filter 3 or 4 times over the years.The trans fluid I drained out looked and smelled just like the new stuff I put in. Between towing campers,5ers,equipment trailer and horse trailers plus snow plowing for 10 yrs ,its had a hard life,but no worse for it.

Shell Rotella T 15w40. Change every 5,000 miles.

I've been using Mobil Del Vac 15w40 for the last 9 years. So far, it has worked very well.
Also, if you do a search, you can get a $5/gal rebate from Mobil up to 5 gals.

That would be fine if you don't change your oil very often. I always change it once a year (drive less than 10k miles/year) so I feel that regular dino oil is fine.

Valvoline Premiun Blue SAE 15W40 rating CES20081 or CJ-4/LS Specified in the cummins manual. I have used it since new 2008. Normally find it on sale at Auto Zone in the fall.

I change oil & filter @ 15,000 or once a year whichever is the longest, usually before making any long trip like FL.

Better be using the European blend of Mobil 1 (the official oil of...) in a
Mercedes Blu Tech 3.0 V6 diesel, period! No choice here so every season
I will be spending around $110 (dyi only!) for 12 ltr. of this stuff, plus filter,
for my '11 Solera. Gen set will get the American Mobil 1 for added
insurance, plus filter at recco'd intervals. * * sigh.,.,.,.,.,**

Hey boowho! You are getting a lot of responses, but for what engine type; most do not say. I believe that you want responses for a Cummins Diesel. There are distinct oils for diesel, like Shell Rotella or Valvoline Diesel Blue what most seem to use. Valvoline Diesel Blue also comes in a synthetic.

I use Mobile 1 Del vac in every engine I own (diesel and gas), including my Yamaha gennys!

Thanks, Hank.... I forgot that many NON-Berkshire owners read this forum, so figured I would only be getting answers from Berk owners.

I figure on the Rotella. Synthetic (of any brand) is better, but also (I think) more expensive.

Cummins says it's OK too use synthetic, but NOT to extend the change interval (as you can do with most cars using synthetic).

Since I have to change annually (no matter what) I figure a good high quality regular oil (that meets Cummins specs) will be fine. YMMV.

I've been using Valvoline since the 70's. I also use Valvoline Premiun Blue SAE 15W40 rating in the Berkshire as specified in the Cummins manual.

Rotella, and change every 5000 miles with filter and two fuel filters every other oil change.

I work with a former Cummins test engineer who did a lot of their EPA testing. I called him as soon as I needed my first oil change and asked him what Cummins actually uses. His answer was that they had an alliance with Valvoline and they did all of their testing with it. Then he proceeded to tell me that as long as the oil meets the API spec, they are compatible and the engine would meet its B20 design life.

Rotella T6 5w40 in the blue jug @ Walmart. Right now it's on sale. Intervals every 200 hours or 7,000 miles (5000 miles if towing alot) whichever comes first.
