Feedback on smi Air Force one?

Looking to get a braking system for my Jeep Wrangler. Anyone have this system? How do you like it? Do I need the key on while it's being towed? Any feedback would be great. Thanks

I have it in my 2012 Honda CRV. Works great, no problems. Use a fuse switch to turn off a required fuse, and in a Honda only the key is turned to unlock the steering. What I did not get and wish I had was a light inside the RV cab indicating when it is activated.

Tow a wrangler with Air Force one and simple as pie. Place in gear with transfer case in neutral and away you go! Love it and would recommend it to anyone. Funny note is look how many time the manual tell you how to tow... It state about 4-5 time on one page to put in gear and tc in neutral. Funny I thought.

Edward,

The brake light wiring has been done by several members on the forum (Paul?) As I understand it (not having done it myself yet) it is fairly straightforward: run a wire from the coupler to the dash, and mount the light in the dash. When you apply MoHo brakes, the brake controller sends a signal to the TOAD brakes and, when they are applied, the circuit is complete and the light on your dash is activated.

Bob, I had Total Value RV install the light and wiring for the light. They had Elkhart Hitch do the work and it has never worked on this new coach.
I have the Roadmaster InvisiBrake on my setup. It works great. The light even comes on when you apply the engine brake because it activates the tail lights on the Jeep.

With the Wrangler you should be able to pull the key. I do on my Sahara. Transfer case in neutral, tangy in park, pull the key, lock the doors and away we go. I use the Roadmaster Invisibrake.

I tow a 2002 Wrangler and have the Air Force One. Had an incident with the Wrangler a couple of years ago when the wheel locked despite the key being in the unlocked position. Ruined two tires. Decided to remove the steering wheel lock. Wasn't that hard and never have to worry now.

No steering wheel lock on later model Wranglers. Had the SMI AF-1 on both my Berkshire and Entegra. Transfer case in neutral, transmission in Park and drive it away. I pulled a new grand Cherokee North on I-5 w/the AF-1 disconnected because someone stole my air hose that connects the MH to the jeep. Definitely missed the braking on downhills, even with the tag on the Entegra.

Did you have to pull the steering wheel to do that?

No. Just the column trim and the key cylinder.
