Finally installed my Blue Ox stuff

Took 6 hours, but finally installed my base plate onto the Chevy Colorado.
All set for camping now.
Very happy with the result

Hi Dan:

I had a friend over to help. As usual, everything came apart from the vehicle nicely (putting it back together seems to always be a little more difficult). Blue Ox did a great job in the design to fit the Colorado. All went together as advertised. I am thankful that eTrailer had a video of an install on a 2015 Colorado that we could refer to.

The only slow down was putting the front back on and getting all the holes to match up.

I am very happy I did it here at home instead of paying someone to do it. I had price quotes anywhere from $4200 to $6000 for a complete install along with the Patriot brake system and wiring the tail lights. It ended up costing me close to $3000 for all the parts (I purchased the top of the line tow bar).

It did take a couple hours the day before to install the new bulbs and run the wires for the tail lights. That was extremely easy and just took some time to do a good job in running the wires. I also had to pass a wire from the battery to the cab to power the Patriot, since the Colorado requires a battery disconnect. And one other wire had to come into the cab for the break away switch. I installed a remote disconnect switch for the battery disconnect so I wouldn't have to open the hood and pull a battery cable.

Now I want to take the cover off the Berk and go some place. First scheduled trip is the tadpole rally in south Ohio on May 8th. Can't wait.

So no cutting of the front fascia / bumper? Does it bolt where the tow hooks were or do you drill new holes in the frame? Remote battery disconnect? Hard wire or electronic?

No drilling. It did mount at the location for the tow hooks. I did have to cut/modify a little of the plastic air dam, but not very much.
The only drilling was to mount the break away switch.
The remote battery disconnect is called battery brain, I believe.

Sounds great Kenny. We came close to buying a Colorado. I was very impressed with the new ones. The deal breaker for me was the column lock. I was hoping that they had gone to a keyless ignition. We ended up with a Lincoln MKX. A good car but I wanted the truck. Oh well. Next time.

It'll be while before you can find a Colorado. GM just locked all sales on them due to defective airbags a couple of days ago. Not sure how long that will last. No big deal, just a delay.

Hey Dan...... I did forget to tell you the there were legs on each side of the hidden bumper that had to be cut with a sawz-all. There is a video of the Colorado install on eTrailer where you can see the minor modifications required.

I apologize for forgetting to mention that earlier.

Welcome, I finally got around to picking up a new Colorado last night. I'll be working on the towing stuff sometime soon. I think the Brown is going to perfectly match the brown in my motorhome.

I think what Nicky likes best is the heated seats. It's like having a heating pad in the truck for her aching back.
