First Time for Everything

Well, we just arrived at Lake Tawakoni SP here in Texas and I'm going about setting up coach.... Levelers, open slides, plug in electric and open the door on the water hook up and out falls a 3' snake.... Must admit, I did some pretty quick high stepping getting out of his/her way..... Got a stick and escorted it to the woods ..... Been MHing for 40 years and never had that before.... Lesson learned...

DW and I watched a 4' long Texas Rat Snake slithering across our yard early this week. It went to our TT parked under a shed. We watched it climb (is that a good enough verb?) up the steps - gave DW the willies. The last we saw, it was crawling over the tops of the tires.

I'm not sure where it went... hoping not to see it again!

Mr. Dan....

I'll bet you have a "snake in the camper"...... At least he'll keep the mice under control... Be sure to check under the covers because they like warm places....

That'll wake you up real quick.

That looks like a really nice state park, going to add it to the must visit list. How's the fishing there?

Let me know if you catch any bass, I'll haul my kayaks up there when we go. Nice spot by the way, nicely tucked in the trees.

Glamping is a contraction of the two words 'glamor' and 'camping'... not your average tent and stick fire camping!

Many years ago on one of our yearly trips to Disney World, just after setting up our motorhome I looked up at a tree that was just past the power pedestal. The tree was growing in the shape of a 'Y' and in that 'Y' which was about 10' up was a snake coiled up and just sitting there. Needless to say I wasn't too happy about that and I notified the Disney people. So, my point is, it looks like the snakes are not limited to Texas.

I'll take a rattler anytime before dealing with a cottonmouth. At least the rattler will let you know it's there. Cottonmouths have some really bad attitudes.

Ok. I will say it!!! The only good snake is a dead snake.
A couple years ago my dogs killed a 39" copper head(yes, they get that big in Arkansas)...not before it bit 2 of them.

My wife and I both have been bitten by Copperheads.... Nasty little snake .... BUT a snake bite will move you to the front of the line at the emergency room as I found out....

So, do I understand correctly that there are only 4 species of venomous snakes in Texas, but there are several subspecies of these snakes (10 rattlesnakes, 1 cottonmouth, 3 copperheads, 1 coral snake).
