FR Berkshire Safety Recall notice 17V623. “Both headlamps may shut off when switching from the low beam to high beam setting, causing reduced or loss of visibility while driving”. The XL and XLT built in and after 2015 have headlights with only a single filament bulb and are affected.
Had the same thing happen to me when I was pulling our 2017 Berk XL 40A into the garage for the winter two days ago. Wanted to check the headlight aim so I tried the low beam and switched to high beam. The driver's side headlight went out. Got it back by switching the headlights on and off a few times. Thought it was a fluke, till I read the recall. Was going to install the H11 LED replacement bulbs, but now will wait till this issue is taken care of. The Forest River folks should step up and provide a solution to the dim headlight issue. With the existing bulbs, driving at night is downright DANGEROUS.
Does FR have a procedure that we should follow to report an observed safety issue that many of us have with unsat headlight brightness? Just maybe, just maybe if enough report the issue formally, action may come.
Here is the text of the recall.
