Fuel Filter Replacement.

In the process. Lots of learning. Here's how far I've gotten, any input welcomed. (There's a mod in there too..... )

Thanks for your research. I'm looking forward to your report on the final result.

I am also perplexed by all the weird information on the fuel filters. I've heard that our coaches are supposed to have three, but the Freightliner parts lists only two. The one I am missing, I think, is on the chassis rails.

AFAIK there's only two, and there was only two reported in Camp Freightliner. One is on the rail and installed by FL (the yellow filter/separator) and the other one is on the engine by Cummins. (The black one).

Waiting on the fuel line to ball valve fitting to arrive, then install the ball valve. THEN I can start the replacing of the filters.

Five things for what they are worth

1 Primary fuel filter is different on my 2008 cummins, interesting

2 I do not loose fuel when I take off the fuel separator. I have done it three times now. Like you I have read where many people say you do. Maybe just my coach and the way the fuel line is run. I have always changed with a full tank.

3 Buy a extra plastic bowel for the water separator $35.00. All you have to do is break it when taking off and you are SOL.

5 Do one filter at a time and start coach between each to minimize air in line

5 Pre-charge the filters prior to install.

Good write up so far on the blog

My MH is in storage, so here are the photos and docs that I have.

My first picture is Fuel Filter FF630009 or 5304743.
The second picture is badly focussed unfortunately, but it shows the Fuel Filter noted above beside the yellow Fuel-Water separator with the drain valve below. There is a lot of paint on my Fuel-Water separator and I can't read the part number.

When I looked up the parts build list on my MH, I also found reference to:

1. Cummins 4934879 Fleetguard FS1065, which is a Primary Fuel Filter 10 micron water-separating Prefilter with WIF Sensor). I bought one of these and it doesn't have the plastic bowl below, but it has the connector and the drain. I think I'll explicitly try to buy the bowl and filter separately if I can find the number.

2. Cummins 4934845 Fleetguard FF5632, which is a Secondary Fuel Filter (2 micron). I can't find any information to cross reference it to the FF630009, so I can't be sure it is the same as what is on my MH.

3. RAI 025RAC10, which is an ISB02 inline Fuel Strainer on chassis. I can't find this on my chassis. It may be up near the fuel tank.

They sure don't make it easy to find everything in either the parts department or on the MH.

1/2 Interesting. #3 noted, I mentioned it in my writeup. #4 Yes, I've read that and plan to. #5 Yes..... the outside ring. Put a plastic plug in the center.
