Fuel/ water separator filter
Right now & factory installed I have this Alliance filter on my engine.
But the manual calls for either a Cummins part or Fleetguard filter. But neither one of those have the yellowish clear plastic part at the bottom.
Has anyone changed it themselves and went with the Fleetguard filter?

the clear part on bottom screws off and goes on the new filter

They brands in most cases are all interchangable, you can cross reference them. As stated, some come with a new bowl, others have you move the bowl to the new filter.

According to this picture of the Fleetguard filter it's part of the filter. This is why I am asking.

If yours does not have a water in fuel sensor in the clear bowl, there should be a fleetgaurd that matches that without the sensor.

you want to use Fuel Water Seperator Alliance ABP-N122 R50419. Do not discard the clear plastic bowl and do not use a substitute part.

the right fleetgaurd number is FS19798 wix number 33813 napa number 3813 all good filters and you do have to reuse your clear bowl.

ibrunnuing I am not sure where you are getting these numbers but they do not match what my owners manual is telling me. Unless you can provide me some sort of documentation on where you are getting these numbers I will follow what my manual says to use.
This is what my manual states.
My engine is still under factory warranty so I want to use the right filters.

If it came with the Alliance filter from the factory then that is what I would use regardless of what the manual says.
It is possible that there is a supplement to the manual in regards to the Alliance filter.

I got the number off the filter as well as from Freightliner when I went to Camp FreightLiner

I knew you were right silver, it's the numbers ibrunning posted. Out of all the googling I did I only found 1 Alliance filter for sale on eBay.

the numbers I posted were from the cross reference for fleet gaurd , napa and wix using the number from silver other post . I would not be afraid to use any of these as they are good respected filter brands . fyi wix makes napa filters and fleetgaurd is a subsidiary of cummins .

Ok. 25 years in auto parts...21 at NAPA. Use the interchange as a guide...use the APPLICATION guide as the bible...and use the serial number/OEM information as the holy grail.

I wouldn't bother hunting down the same brand, even dealers interchange from what the factory puts on the vehicles. I have seen this many times, as long as they meet the cross reference specs you cannot get dinged on using a NAPA or WIX over a Alliance.

Iwannacamp I appreciate your experience behind the parts counter because i'm one of the people you deal with every day 25 + years working on trucks and heavy equipment and have plenty of experience finding parts. That being said sometimes the fuel water separator is not factory installed it is dealer installed i have replaced many alliance filters with ones from napa wix and fleetgaurd with no problems . imo the op needs to take the filter into a napa store or a truck shop so they can match it up but if it is the part number given by silver the numbers I gave are correct.

The OP can substitute the filter. Alliance parts and filters are Freightliner's private label parts company. I have my coach serviced at Cummins and they interchange with Fleetguard.
The Fleetguard number that Cummins installed on mine is FS19521.

you can buy Alliance ABP-N122 R50419 from Freightliner at the (1 800 ftl help) number. Also get a discount if member of FCOC

The FS1065 will not fit where the Alliance filter goes. Freightliner changed the separator when they installed the Cummins engine in their chassis. I tried, and the FS1065 I used could not be returned because it had become used by trying to install it. Also the fuel supply to this filter position is lower than the tank, so when changing this filter, fuel is constantly, slowly running out. The less time you have the filter off, the less fuel will drip out.
