I’m considering upgrading from a class c to class a. I’m looking at a 2014 forest river Berkshire 390 bh. Anything I need to specially look for before I buy? Also what are the routine maintenance areas for a class a diesel? Thank you for input.

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. If you are not familiar with diesel driveline I would recommend having a diesel mech check things out before you buy. Good luck

There is a learning/comfort curve when changing rv types-at least there was for me. Having it checked out is good advice. Having either the previous owner or someone very familiar with the systems on the coach thoroughly go over them with you will help take any mystery (and make any troubleshooting much easier) out of the process. You’ll like traveling in your coach, we sure do.

Some Berkshires had to have the front end upgraded due to weight. Check the sticker above the drivers seat in the cabinet for max weight and have it checked for weight. 2014 is about the right year for this issue. Also call freightliner and Cummins with the vin number and check to make sure all the recalls have been done and get history from them.

When i found my 2012 390BH ,I was very lucky to find a fellow forum member who traded it in. He was kind enough to spend about an hour with me on the phone going over everything. I was also able to call Freightliner and they sent me all the service records for the coach.


I bring mine in every year to freightliner for its oil change and lube, and pick about 50-70 % of the stuff on the maintenance list to have them do. Usually around $1500- $2500 per year.


My front airbags were upgraded for more weight- but they also change all 6 tires!

Our is a 2011 390RB 360hp. Hadn’t had the update for weight but we had it weighed last year, a year after we bought it. The diesel division took great care of us and we even had a bit of fun in Elkhart. VA to IN to NH. A bit of a detour

I would check to see if they have maintenance records for all work done in the past. Also, you may be looking at new tires for that year coach.
