genset auto start controls

our Berkshire came with a genset auto start, didn't know it had it until one evening it started. We can not find any control panel for it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Sure it had one? Maybe fault in remote start wiring. I think I'd disable it, could be dangerous. We used them for critical generator start on loss of power, why does a M/H have it? Just wondering. When I've seen them fitted there's always a obvious panel where Op selects auto or Man standby position, with handle and usually a indicator light.

Genset auto start

On your FR Appliance Information Sheet is the Inverter that was installed on your coach. Mine is a Magnum 1212 w/no auto start

Found the control you were asking about. If you have it you can program to start DG set. Gotta believe you would find it if fitted. Didn't research it but looks like it can be retrofittel. Found on Magnum website

Looks like from the installtion/operation manual it's flush mounted in an interior hollow wall. Cabling should be near the DG (another kit is needed) and the inverter. Where are the existing controls for start DG and, if any, for inverter ? The DG controls requires a Kit and its shown as a separate option. If there are any existing Gen or inverter controls, the remote I'm showing is not fitted. It would take the place of controls now in place. Its a very good book I found under Magnum Converter.

Vince, thanks for looking. Think we will call magum with the model of the inverter and see what they say. If we don't have a auto start, then the question what started the generator?

Thanks again

Mine is mounted under the panel where the slide switches, water heater switch, tank/propane/battery gauge is located. Never new it had the ability to auto start the generator. Will need to look into that.

I don't know if you have a residential style refrigerator, but I heard the autostart feature is required for them. I suppose it is supposed to protect your fridge contents in case you drain the batteries. (anyone else ever wonder why 'fridge' has a 'd' in it, but the word 'refrigerator' has none?)

No residential fridge, asked FR for a build sheet on the HM, but not holding my breath. Have looked everywhere for the control panel, only place left is a small covered gray box up by the generator but I think it's just a connection point where the generator cables join the cables going to the rear. If we don't have a genset autostart, then the bigger question is why the generator started on it's own. Guess one way is to let the batteries run down and see what happens.

Mine has a battery disconnect switch. Wouldn't throwing that switch have the same effect as running down your batteries if yours has some sort of autostart?

Great idea, however if I switch the battery disconnect, then the generator can not start since it has no battery. I have turned off the battery disconnect before and generator never started.

Thanks

Oh, ok. I was thinking the generator started off the chassis batteries. I guess the run-down technique is your best bet.
