Have You Checked Your Gas Springs Lately?

I have been doing some work under the bed and was cursing how heavy it was to lift. However, it was a great find when one of the gas springs fell off. I found it to be completely shot with not one ounce of pressure.

It has the part number on it and manufacturer. They are 135 lb gas springs and the bed has two.

I'd like to close out this thread by saying that after replacing one defective gas spring, the bed can easily be lifted with just a couple fingers.

I caution anyone attempting to remove a gas spring, that the bed should be lifted to the point where the gas springs are fully extended.

Hmmmm... was the gas spring a OEM replacement? If so, I noticed on the web site that the Spring has a 5 year warranty (when purchased direct).

You'd think the OEM spring would have lasted longer than 3 years on your rig

Hank, since one did the trick did you go ahead and replace both?
Was only one of them defective?

I really thought that both were bad since the bed was so heavy to lift. However upon removing the last spring, I found it to be good. At a 135 lb rating, it is almost impossible to compress by hand. I left the one good original on and kept a new one as a spare. I am not sure about any warranty on the original equipment and just ordered from Suspra.
