Good point. Stay with the original. One last thing... since I'm going to replace them both, got any thoughts on going with an HID upgrade for better visibility on the headlights? TDŽ 8000K Xenon HID Kit Low Beam 00 04 Toyota Highlander 9006/HB4 and TDŽ 8000K Xenon HID Kit High Beam 00 04 Toyota Highlander 9005/HB3

The a/m HID kits are not as great as factory. From what I understand from the industry, the reflectors inside the lenses are set up to maximize the light output of halogen. Putting in a higher output HID make work well in some vehicles but may send the light in the wrong direction.

With that being said, I use sylvania silverstars. A different color or "frequency" of light. They have their basic set at $35 bucks or their super wazoo ones at $50. Trade off is bulb life. To me, they are a huge difference in quality of light and I run them in both my vehicles and foglights. Don't use a cheaper brand-they are not tested for quality like the sylvanias. Seen MANY Honda's come in with melted headlight housings and wire harnesses because the cheap lights pull too many watts.

I feel compelled to point out that installing a HID bulb kit in a vehicle that was not sold new with HID is a violation of federal and therefore state DOT law.

There are many anecdotal stories on the net of people being pulled over and ticketed. Not to say you will, but can happen.

And just for reference, the factory color temperature on most HID bulbs is about 3500 Kelvin. Anything over 6000 is basically blue and you are losing significant PAR which is light output.

Ok.... Thoughts? Just want to be sure I get the right lights and maximize visibility.

Doctormdj- your first choice will give you an HID look with a bluish light at the lens and I'm hoping a good pattern on the ground. The silverstars are definatly a brighter white than basic bulbs but no blue. Any upgrade should be a improvement than standard and on a highway at night you will notice the difference. I just recommend going with a quality bulb so do your homework.
